Of course evil is indestructible, as is everything that exists. Matter and energy cannot be destroyed, only changed in form or transported, duh! That is true for all that exists. However, evil can be contained, as in prison, even at the spiritual level. Your point of evil being indestructible (like everything that exists once it exists) just goes to show that sequels to horror stories are to be expected if wished by the fans and the creating artist(s). In other words, although your comment is true it still does not help my disappointment of the ending which has little to do with evil surviving and "re-rooting" but rather the failure of the novel to close the circle of the beginning and ending of the story.
Perhaps if someone begins writing a sequel to the film version about thirty years after the novel release (that would be around 2025) then King will announce he has started writing a sequel to Rose Madder when she is in her 60s and will start right after he finishes his new novel to save Lincoln which means the Rose Madder sequel will be released three years later in 2028 when King is 80.
