I've had gator many times, and it's okay. I will eat it if someone serves it to me, but I never seek it out. It can sort of taste like chicken or fish, depending on the seasonings used and method of cooking, but as someone above pointed out, it's kind of rubbery, so I'll stick with chicken and fish when I have that choice.
Gotta wash it down with a nice glass of Gatorade!
I lived in Louisiana for a while during my wanderlust years. I had the opportunity to try gator tail. I agree that it was a bit rubbery. i also found it a bit gamey. But that was the only time I've had it, the only restaurant. Maybe it's better somewhere else.
In terms of Animalia, I'm willing to try mammals, birds, and reptiles, but no insects, please.
Had, like, gator nuggets with cocktail sauce. Chunks of tailmeat, breaded and fried. Not bad.
But yeah, gator meat's outrageously expensive. I can getcha a sweet deal on some blackmarket crocodile. It's tangier, may contain some shoe leather.
