Although, now that I think about it, Alfred may be a better logo and motto for our credit cards. I think the "what, me worry?" would be perfect for credit cards.
Veni, vidi, Visa.
(I came, I saw, I bought.)
maybe we should go with a wally world logo, and everyone live on wallybucks..
oh, i don't know, dsurrett......i think an awful lot of 'em trust in god...
they just don't trust religion...especially one that is not theirs
..it's not just the profit motive...it's the 'what does it profit ME ?' aspect that has always been there, from the inception of this country (and most others, i might add: we are not alone): the ethics of religion fly right out the window when it does not instantly profit the individual asked to help their fellow man.
ol' ronnie reagan wanted to get rid of welfare...said it was bankrupting us...said 'they' were all mooches...
the D's said...'um, not so much'
so ronnie spent some of our tax dollars to investigate...they came back and reported what every ethical person already knew: the overwhelming majority of people who went on welfare stayed on it less than a year and never went back...it was, in fact, an assistance that truly helped people when they were down on their luck
it, in almost all cases, got used for its intended purposes, and helped folks get back on the right track...
'course...this didn't phase ronnie and his henchmen from continuing the lie..a lie that perpetuates amongst the vapidly uninformed to this day: that we are all paying too much tax $$ to slovenly, lowly people who are bilking us and putting is deep in debt..
truth is...that very same report pointed out that we gave far, far monies in corporate welfare...monies never paid back...except, of course, when they consistenly use those tax loopholes and tax defferments to buy legislators, create investor-friendly laws, close down jobs, send them overseas (get more tax-breaks for doing so) and further enrich the very same people who have never really had their 'welfare' curtailed as the working poor did
...and that is just some of the more the recent history...our economic policies are literally littered with enethical behaviors that favor investors to the detriment of the greater populace...
don't get me wrong...i am not a socialist...quite far from it...i do consider myself to be of an ethical nature and most of what passes as economic policy now and throughout the entirety of our history has been of an extremely specious nature at best...damaging and deadly at worst...
Go out and ask random Americans on the street what "e pluribus Unum" means and they would most likely think it has something to do with the Kardashians or Honey Boo Boo!
i think jay leno tried that..those are the same answers on most of his jaywalking bits, right ?
I prefer E Pluribus Unum. I don't think God/dess is really that interested in playing "most favored nation." And I think it's bloody arrogant to think that S/he does. It's like an obnoxious sibling, "Daddy/Mommy likes me best." Childish.
