Yes folks! Roll right up! Instead of govt helping you stay in the game they insist you play, fight for your freedom to be denied even basic medication! You have the absolute right to die from relatively minor ailments, because it's your fault you have to work a zero-hours (aka casual), blue-collar job! Sure, somebody's got to do it, but those that do...well, screw 'em! Whaddya mean you've got a college degree, but took this job because you got laid off and were desperate for money so you could pay the bills? So what? Diddums and boo-hoo. Etc etc etc.
They really are full of crap, aren't they? Govts of all stripes are very keen to rob you blind - sorry, claim taxes - but when it comes to giving something back?
The whole "liberty from heath care" thing reminds me of when some of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party folks started saying our NHS operated 'death lists', where doctors decided who would live and who would be left to snuff it. It was nothing but BS. Yes, there have been cases where cancer patients have lobbied for access to new/more expensive drugs, but they are denied to everyone for a variety of reasons (I'm not going to pretend the NHS is perfect, because it isn't). However, all patients are entitled to the same level of care, or they can go private if they can afford it and want whatever (legal) drug they care to name (provided it's been tested and passed by the British Medical Association - which a lot of new 'wonder drugs' are only in the process of being, while others have been tested and found to have significant side effects and/or secondary health risks).
What it all means is that the richer you are, the more weapons you have at your disposal in your fight for health and life, but if you're poor you still get the treatment you need, even if it's only at the most basic level. If either country has a system where people are put on a list and essentially left to suffer and die, it's going to be the one without a state health care program and where administrators have to check your bank balance and insurance level, not ours (yet; if the Tories had their way, the NHS would be dismantled and the poor left to get on with it).
If govt provides the people with nothing useful, what is the point of govt? (The armed forces don't count; they're not there to defend you as a citizen, they are there to defend whatever the politicians decide is 'the national interest'.)
Interesting article on the crisis of gerrymandering (drawing districts to ensure re-election) that has a lot to do with what is going on right now. When you consider how low the approval rating is, it's ridiculous that 90% of these guys are re-elected. We can't get rid of them even if we want to.
... and we're back! Thank goodness! I have a few friends who are federal employees and they were pretty darn worried.
Now we get to do this all over again in January. Seriously. :lfacepalm:
The can has been kicked down the road.............again.
Right now, this is where I stand
Knowing that the patience of the country had worn thin,
Congress put a bandage on an open, angry wound.
Can they stitch the nation back together now? Stay tuned.
I don't think Republicans are ever gonna heal.
Party's split and voters who've told pollsters how they feel
Say they blame the GOP for causing such a mess.
Will some pay the price in their elections' next year? Yes.
Ted Cruz isn't worried though; he raised a lot of cash.
Donors who preferred to see financial markets crash;
Voters who agree with him - less government, not more.
Cruz can't run for President, so what's the money for?
Maybe he could use some to defray the nation's cost...
Make up for the more than $20 billion that we lost.
Maybe pay for therapy and medication, 'cause
No one's proven more delusional than Ted Cruz was.
