2 thoughts on this subject. I just finished the book, The Psychopath Test over the weekend, and it mentioned in a couple of places that psychopaths generally dream in black andf white, if they dream, which aparenlty is not that much, in general. In comparison, schizophrenics dream in vivid color and dream a lot. (Alittle off subject: I was also interested to find out that the tv studio folks that book reality shows like the Jerry Springer type, use indicators like what medication someone is taking to pick their personalities for a show.) Second thought, a pyschology class study that students could volunteer for back in my college days, did the same thing the Japanese are doing, but there was no MRI available.

I dream in vivid color and I have a strong sense of smell and taste in my dreaming...I must be schizo lol. I am a little skeptical about the psychopath test, though. I cannot recall any co-orelation between vividness of dreams in reference to psychopatholy. Did they actually have any stats on this? If true, it is certainly amazing. I know there is a strong coorelation between folks who are risk takers and stunt doers in regards to psychopathology though.

I find dream research to be fascination and I did numerous papers on this subject when I majored in psych. It is like an unknown frontier when it comes to scientific research....we do not know a lot about why we dream etc.

I put a review of the book and some reference websites on the what are you reading thread. The writer is an English investigative reporter, not a psychologist. A lot of the studies he mentions comes from work in various countries and a lot in Canada, in particular I remember one place called Oak Ridge, because there is an Oak Ridge, Tennessee where the first A bomb was built. He mentioned the dreams in context of one group experiment trying to getting inmates with mental disorders to talk about their dreams. Since he does not go into lots of details on dreams, I would assume schizophrenics are a subset of people who dream vividly rather the reverse.
