    Default The Shining: The Prequel

So, I'm just surfing on the net on a regular Thursday night, and I come across this news!

    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movie...88381481237582

A Prequel to Kubrick's version of The Shining....

I'm in two minds with this. But if King is on board, then count me in for sure. However, knowing me I'll see it anyway. I have to watch sequels/prequels of things... it's a blessing/curse...

I think, if done right, then it could be great...

    so what does everyone think?

Ha!ha!..Seb!..you beat me to it! I just came on to report this too, if it wasn't already posted. Ms. Mod, what does King think about this prequel? Does he really have any say in it being done? I'm interested in knowing his opinion. I've always wanted to know more about the Overlook, but only if King were the one to tell us, isn't that his hotel?

haha, sorry I guess this news is quite hot tonight eh?
I completely agree with you here though. I'd like to know more, and if King was the writer, or in some way involved, well it would make it that much better

Yeah, that's true. There is also talk of the book rights being returned to him, who knows where this will end up...

I was reading this article earlier. I don't want other people to take me back to The Overlook, I want King to take us back. The Overlook is his baby and no one knows it better than him. How can someone else do this? I don't understand it.

Try not to get so upset so quickly Quey. Nothing is final on the subject yet. Stephen King did sell the rights for the Shining to Warner Bros but, he bought the rights back later. The whole thing lies with a loophole regarding the novel parts explaining more of the Overlook's history that were edited out (to be or not to be, that is the question). Seems all too ridiculous to me. I believe it is all a publicity stunt by WB, for whatever reasons we may later understand (or not). Point is, I would not worry until some concrete facts about the situation are opened to the public. Check out this article...

I must admit, I don't really understand why it would be necessary to make a film about the history of The Overlook since you get a full flavour of the building's past in The Shining, it's not as though there are burning questions that have been left unanswered in the story.
