I always like to think that they were there a lot longer than what we really think. Have you ever driven in the fog or a snow white out and got disoriented? You think you've driven a long ways when you barely have inched forward, and time slows down. You feel you've been driving forever. And it's scary. I think everything they went through plus the disorientation made them irrational and hopeless.
