I just finished Gunslinger and Irish Lace, and since the library is taking awhile to get me "the Drawing of Three" and "the Stand," I'm trying out "the Alchemyst," will report if it's any good.

    The Prisoner of Heaven
    Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I have become a huge fan of Carlos Ruiz Zafon. His writing style is hypnotic.

Skootie, glad you found it interesting. And, I was being a smart a** when suggesting the church made her crazy. Of course, mental illness is not a joke and the brain is such a complex mystery -- apparently there are more neurons in the brain than there are stars in the Milky Way. But, I do believe that the church left her feeling very unstable and confused.

The 27th wife was very hard to find in my area of the country. Let's just say, a hotbed of Mormonism. Maybe your local library can find a library that will allow you to check it out through an interlibrary loan? I appreciate you taking my suggestion seriously and seeking out the book.

I read her bio on the wikipedia pg. and agree with your assessment of both her and the book. I have no idea, of course, but tend to think she might have had a lot of emotional problems even without the Mormon upbringing. I'm not sure it's fair to blame her relationship difficulties on the religion, although it certainly was a contributing factor. At any rate, I found the book quite enlightening. I also checked our library for "The Twenty Seventh Wife". They do have a copy, but for some reason, it is in the section for rare books, and cannot be taken out of the library, although I can read it there, on premise. Which probably isn't going to happen, so I'll see where else I might be able to come up with a copy. In the meantime, I'm going to return "Secret Ceremonies" today, and will see what I come home with! I'm off to visit my sister in AZ later this week, and will take the Kindle, and hope to start on "Cutting for Stone" which I downloaded a while back. Until later...

I'm finally reading "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. I loved the movie, so no doubt the book will be even better.

Go get the audio version from your library. Brilliant! Just one of the best audios I've ever listened to and I've listened to a lot.
