After you've finished it, don't even think about reading Alexandra Ripley's horrible, ridiculous, appalling sequel. Instead, go find yourself a copy of The Wind Done Gone, Alice Randall's parallel novel. It's brilliant.
Yes, I enjoyed Gone With the Wind and The Wind Done Gone! You're the first person I've ran across to have read that Lily.

Mammy-'I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies, Miss Scarlett', the house servant, actually. She was the first African American to win an Oscar!

I've read it twice. The book is much better than the movie and the movie was good. The characters and the storyline are so well-developed in the book. I couldn't stand the Ashley Wilkes character in the movie but loved him in the novel because I got to know Ashley the way author meant for him to be known. Once you start reading, you might not be able to put it down.

Is TWDG a spoof? I always thought it was a spoof, therefore I never bothered to read it.

I didn't think of it that way . . .it didn't go over too well with many readers.

It was Prissy that said 'I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' . . . Hattie McDaniel 'Mammy' was indeed the first African American to win an Oscar.

I read GWTW when I was 17, 27, & 37. It is in my top 5 books, for sure. Please read it--many differences in the novel and the movie.
