Oh, you are so right! My mistake. When I was typing it out I kept hearing that squeaky-like voice in my head and kept thinking 'No, Hattie McDaniel's voice was deeper.' Thanks for correcting me on that one.

Found it the school library--BIG book--with me the bigger the better even at 13. When I brought it home, my father spotted it, took it from me to re-read for himself!! Even with him picking it up everytime I put it down, I read it in three days!!

Wonderful, wonderful book! I have visited the Margaret Mitchell house and have seen the tiny, tiny apartment she lived in while writing GWTW and I have also visited her grave.

Please pick this book up and enjoy, enjoy. Let us know what you think!

Had read it back when I was in high school and had already seen the movie so there were a lot of surprises/differences but won't spoil that for you. Definitely worth the read IMO.

When I quickly glanced at this thread I thought it said "Has anyone actually "Gone With The Wind?"... I was about to say "YES, yes, several times already today!!" but then I realised my error. Ahem....... .

    Haven't read the book btw.

When I was kid, my parents watched the movie version, and I swear it took about three years for it to end. (no, I didn't watch it, but was well aware of my parents being in front of the TV for days and days and days!) My dad hated it, not sure about mom. The overall feeling I got was that it was absolutely dull and boring, so I have no desire at all to read that book. I fear it would take me decades to finish.
