(Used to be anyway) French red wines were 11.0 - 11.5% alcohol, Italian reds 12.0 - 14%. In terms of side effects, I believe those tend to be due mostly to byproducts yielded in fermentation or elsewhere, and which are undesirable, and which make the wines less valuable and so cheaper to buy.

My drink of choice always used to be red wines - anything dry, preferences including but not limited to Bordeauxs, Pinot Noirs, Cabernets, and Merlots. (But after a while my palate tired of the dryness.)

I'm gonna assume the difference between the ones you had access to in Italy, which gave you fewer side effects, and those here is about byproducts included in those here which aren't in those there. In other words, those there were purer wines. But I'm assuming.

I continue to assume that the wines you had access to in Italy might seem more prohibitively expensive here, especially compared to other choices at the liquor store. This is why I must travel to Italy, like now.

    Whiskey: Maker's Mark
    Tequila: 1800
    Rum: Cruzan is really good
    Vodka: Ketel One
Beer: This is actually really hard, because I love, love beer. I really like Guinness and Hoegaarden.
Cold drink: Ice tea (barely sweet or unsweet) or Limeade or coconut water
    Hot drink: Coffee
Soda: Probably Pepsi or rootbeer (and I drink soda rarely)

BTW, Todash. You need to make me a Cheeky Ginger the next time I see you. :P

O, I like dry to semi-sweet wines, typically reds.

Water...it's better than snuff and not half as dusty.
