    30. The Tunnel (FTV)
Investigative journalists venture into the labyrinthine system of tunnels beneath Sidney Australia, seeking a story about the homeless and the water supply, but something in the darkness finds them instead. Although done on the cheap as yet another "found footage" film/documentary, reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project, The Tunnel delivers some effective tension and scares. One mistake is the use of interviews with the crew after the fact, because this cues us as to who is going to survive, although there's still intrigue in seeing how things play out. The real star here is the setting, which are miles of quite real tunnels, which ratchets up the realism and claustrophobia considerably. It's amazing to think of these miles of old tunnels beneath the modern city, and while it's never as overt as "Midnight Meat Train", there's very much the sense that progress has come at a price which officials rightfully want to keep hidden. This is a very dark film and fans of The Descent will find much to like here, even though this is the poorer cousin of that film. Some might complain that it's hard to see what's really down there, but to me that just made it better. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I love this movie. Read the book by Robert Marasco in hopes that it would clarify a few of the more random scenes in the video, but alas, or bravo however you want to look at it, this movie was one of the most faithful adaptations to the original writing I have ever watched. Almost word for word, scene by scene. And the book didn't add any more information than the movie. But that was okay. It was just my curiosity needing a scratch.
I'm a big fan of both the book and movie too! And in the movie that chauffer is really creepy!

I gotta say, Shoe, you are watching some epically great stuff!

I am considering having a mini-marathon within the marathon on Halloween. I've been watching so many first-time-viewed movies that I could use Halloween to catch up on some favorites. I am off work 10/31 and 11/01 so I just might see how many movies I can watch on Halloween. If I start early enough, thirteen hours of horror might be possible!

The Blancheville Monster (1963). Compared to some of the movies I've seen lately, this one almost seemed worthy of an academy award. The movie takes place during the 1870s in a chateau in France. In order to fulfill an ancient family curse, a crazy, disfigured count must kill his only daughter before she reaches her twenty-first birthday. This film had some fun elements like really good sets and harpsichord music. I like the way one reviewer described it: " ... a creaky old chiller with a little cold still running through its veins."

Rodrigue from The Blancheville Monster on the harpsichord.

    30) The Haunting(1999) -When Eleanor, Theo, and Luke decide to take part in a sleep study at a huge mansion they get more than they bargained for when Dr. Marrow tells them of the house's ghostly past.~ IMDb...............my first time watching....I guess it was ok. It gave me a few jumps, and the plot itself was good, but the ending kinda fizzled for me...too sappy I guess. I figured this could be a good movie for the kids to watch. Fear Factor: 7 Suspense Factor: 7 I hear this is a remake. I must get the original to watch it.

    30. The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I watched the movie about 6 years ago for the first time, so I did not remember it well. And I am glad I have re-watched it, that's just great. A very good movie, with very deep meaning.

I watched this movie a couple of years ago and thought it was excellent. Then I looked up the "real" Emily Rose (Anneliesse Michel) on the web. If you have the stomach for it, you can see pictures and hear audiotapes of her real exorcism. It's very creepy.

Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959). This is THE quintessential cheesy horror film, IMO, and I know you all are familiar with it. It's always fun to revisit it every five years or so.
