Default My first Stephen King story

Children of the Corn was the first Stephen King story I read.

I used to pull books off my parent's shelf to read when the kids' books got dull. I saw the title and thought it was some faerie tale.

    Boy was I wrong!

I was 12 years old (!) when I read the short story and it forever latched me onto Stephen King and horror in general. Of course I viewed the story from the viewpoint of a child when I read it. My sister was a bright child and a year older than me. She read the story too. And I want to say that neither of us ever considered killing an adult.

Thanks for the great story from your life! I think that's about how old I was when I started reading SK but my first was Salem's Lot (maybe.) Boy that was a long time ago!

    Welcome to the SKMB!

Night Shift is a wonderful book. I think Children of the Corn is an awesome story, as so many of his earlier stories were... it's also amusing how many people don't realize how many movies, tv shows, cultural references, etc are based of of King's stories.

This probably wasn't my first story, but Night Shift was definitely my first introduction to King....I must have been like 12 years old!

Still remains his best short story collection..

The Dark Tower books...in my 20's. (I guess you call me a late bloomer ) I was interested in them when I was a youngster, but I didn't crack them open until I was an adult. I, too, have been hooked ever since.
