I'm not going to lie, this was probably the hardest book to get into that I've ever bought. I wish I had had someone prepare me for setting off on this journey by telling me, "This series does not take place in our world, precisely. Keep an open mind and you'll be fine." Now that I've completed the series, I've gotten no less than a dozen people hooked. I fancy myself a Dark Tower promotor of sorts - I check in with them, make sure they're still reading, and if they're not, why they stopped. At some point, be it in the first book or later in the series, your mind will snap around the concept and /that's/ when you really get to enjoy the world Sai King created. Stick with it, unbuckle your seatbelt, and remember - anything is possible, especially in Mid World ; )

I am friends with hundreds of readers and professional writers and I yet to find one of them that has anything good to say about the Dark Tower series. As a freelance writer of some merit it's very frustrating that I can't even get an agent to look at a horror novel I completed a couple years ago that is a better read than any of the Tower books. I own over a hundred pounds of Stephen's hardbacks and I am in awe of many of them that I consider great. However, if I were King I'd be embarrased to put my name on any of the Tower Series books.

Words cannot describe the depth of this series. I get lost in all of them time and time again. Roland, Eddie, Susana, Jake, Oy, these characters will live on in your heart long after you finish this epic. Start this book and I promise you will devour it and all books after. The man in black fled across the dessert and ALL US TOWER JUNKIES FOLLOWED!

For me, the Dark Tower series and especially the Gunslinger is the only SK's opus I really fell in love with. Well, I like almost all of his novels, but not to the point of mystical fear.. if you know what I mean...

I believe this is the first SK book I ever read. Instantly hooked and now a Constant Reader. Since completing the series I have started the audiobooks. Frank Muller is AMAZING. It's a tragedy he'll never narrate again... I'll always love this story and Roland. Little Sisters is a great tale, and WttK is excellent as well. Fun to read, always leaves me wanting more. I need more of these adventures of the last Gunslinger. Final note: For the love of God, Gan or the Jesus-Man, PLEASE don't cast Russell Crowe as Roland. In my humble opinion, it would disgrace the character and hence the movie/story as well (this is based off rumors).

This is the best series I have ever read and by far is one of Stephen King's greater works. The artwork was done best by this artist in the first and seventh book of the series, perfectly capturing a glimpse of the idea and puting it into a work of art.

My first venture into the Dark Tower series is a fast read and the imagery is prime, crisp and relentless as the desert it describes. I fell into SK again after putting aside while I raised my children. Found him again in Duma Key (love Wireman) and Lisey's Story, I cried and grew up to love. Hooked again! Want to read all the Dark tower books! Will!

This is a world that is so fun to fall into. I re-read this series about once a year and each time it feels like coming home to an old friend. I love them. When you reach the last pages of the last book, your stomach is churning because you want to know what happens, but, at the same time, you want to read slowly, so it doesn't end. This is the only Stephen King book that has made me cry. It makes you feel; I can't give it a better compliment than that. I recommend this series to all of my friends, and I would recommend it to any of you as well. A great read!

I have read every one of your dark tower series. I was so excited to see the newest addition to the sires. The only thing that would be almost as awsome as the books would be for them to be made in to movies.

Love the series. Waited anxiously for each book. As we all know the books are always better than the movies. But with the news that DT movie is a possibility, who better to play Roland than Josh Brolin.

The story that not only made me realise I wanted to read books for the rest of my life, but that I also wanted to spend my life writing my own. So I did, and I am.

I finally got around to finishing The Gunslinger in just under a week, and while it started off kind of slow, it picked up about midway through and grabbed me from then on. Jake and his story has become one of the best written characters I have ever read about in a story, and the one thing that really bothers me is that I don't own the next book, and I want to read on so bad!

MY COMPUTER IS NOT WORKING SO I CAN'T GET ON WORD BUT I WROTE ALL OF MY IDEAS DOWN. I HAVE AN EXELLENT IDEA.I'M SO EAGER TO WRITE DOWN. LOOK FOR MY BOOK SOMEDAY I WILL BE A FAMOUS BESTSELLING WRITER JUST LIKE STEPHEN KING,LOOK OUT WORLD HERE I COME. MY BOOK'S TITLE WILL PROBALY BE SOMETHING LIKE THE WARP OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. NOW ALL I NEED TO DO IS FIND STEPHEN KINGS ON WRITING AND ITS 99.99% CHANCE THAT I WILL BE A WRITER! AT THE END OF THIS BOOK I FOUND MY SELF HATEING ROLAND FOR WHAT HE DID TO JAKE I ALMOST CRIED.

I just finished it yesterday. It starts a little slow, but then you can't stop reading it. The last chapter was the best one by far. Can't wait to buy The Drawing of the Three. One of King's greatest books.

I have been a SK reader for many years but I just discovered this series a couple of years ago when I found "The Drawing Of The Three" in a box in the attic. I read it and, while it was good, it didn't really light a fire like many of his others. Little did I know it was because I was coming in late in the series. I bought all the others and started reading and I was completely drawn in by page 3 of Gunslinger. I read avidly in every moment of my down time until I finished the series and will soon be reading it again. Right now, I am working my way through all his other books with ties to this series and I understand more and more with each one that I read. I would give my left foot, my right arm, and my firstborn child to see this series go the way of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, with very well made movies. If it doesn't though, I won't be too mad because I do still have the books to read.

I love King. I've read only this book in the series. It wasn't a nail-biter like many of his books. It was entertaining and I can see how it would appeal to the Tolkien crowd, but for many fans of King and the suspense/thriller/horror genre, this series won't inspire. It, just like all of King's novels, is very well written and I will continue to sing his praises, just not for this series in particular.

The start of an epic tale. I am now on book 4 and it is my second favorite series of all time (it hasn't beaten Harry Potter YET)

I completed this novel last night. I had the Dark Tower series collecting dust in my closet for about five years, so I decided to start reading them. The opener of this series reads like a Fantasy Western: a gunslinger is the closet thing to a cowboy in the End World parallel universe. He's basically the epitome of a gunslinging twinner cowboy, looking for a man in black, as the synopsis say. It's an interesting tale, a little slow at first, then picks up toward the end of Roland's time in Tull. A great read for Stephen King fans.

I am reading the Dark Tower series for the third time and it is one of my favorite stories. I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard a movie was being talked about with Christian Bale as Roland. My vote is for Timothy Olyphant!

At first the change in SK's writing style through me, but once I got used to it, it was great (just like any other SK novel). Most definitely an interesting concept, Roland is a knight but instead of a medieval setting, the story takes place in the post-apocalyptic West. Not our "West", but one that existed in a world that mirrors our own. Also instead of swords, he uses guns. Can't wait to start The Drawing of the Three!

This was not the most exciting book and it was a little confusing at times, but it was the start to my favorite series of books I have ever read. In my opinion the Dark Tower series is the pinnacle of Stephen King's career. I love all Stephen King novels.

I have to say I had to make myself read all the way through this book, but boy am I glad I did. Even though this one didn't consume me, it was the gateway to the best book series I have and will ever read. Yes, I am a Dark Tower junkie!

This was the book that got me into reading Mr.King's works. Normally a book that would take me a few days to read with school only took me one day, I could not put it down. A great read, I would recommend it to everyone.

I read Gunslinger many years ago and atthat time could not find its next novels. At that time I finished it and put it away as too confusing as the storystarts abrutly and ends nowhere. Later after many years I got hold of Wizard and Glass and started remembering ts and arts of the Gunslinger. W&G was a mind opener and after reading Gunslinger from my collection once again I could not wait to get my hands on the remaining series. I got Wastelands and Drawing of the Three at seperate times and the last three are simply not available anywhere inPakistan (whereI live) I have read these four arts many times over now and hate to put them down each time. U can imagine my frustration of not being able to go ahead with the story till the end!!!!!!

Please do not turn this or any of the Dark Tower into a movie! Hollywood will cut too much of the story and the entire series is fantastic. IT was an awesome novel, but he movie left much to be desired because they cut too much out of it. Please don't let the same thing happen to the Dark Tower

This book its like no other! One of the reasons Ive become a huge Kings fan was, besides the fact of his compelling storytelling, the mythology of his work, of the characters he created. And this epic its an incredible journey through Mr.Kings brainstorm at his BEST! One of my all time favourite books, and a MUST HAVE for Fans.

It's hard to make any comment on the DT in less than 20.000 words other than FANTASTIC and TRULY MINDBLOWINGLY GOOD!!! Simply and truly the deepest and most complete fictional universe ever written (in my humble opinion). Offers an uncomparable insight into almost all of Mr. Kings other work. To fully appreciate the DT you will have to have read most of King's other work, but to fully appreciate his other novels you will have to have read the DT! The DT completes his work without finalizing it. Truly worth reading and rereading (5 times for me, two in Danish, once in the original language and twice in varoius original audio book versions). Dear Mr. King. Thank you very very much!

When I was around 14 I bought this book off a market stall and read it expecting usual horror from King, I was surprised and delighted with this 1 of what would be 7 books and went out to get the other 2 which were in print then. Well worth the journey!
