    Default Scariest Stephen King book?

I couldn't find a thread like this, but if there is one already, sorry.

So I'm just finishin Salem's Lot and I'm at a loss as to what to read next (until November that is). So I was wondering, which Stephen King book do you think was the most scary? Which was the least scary?

    Hi,

Well, Sai King said himself -

'When I'm asked (as I frequently am) what I consider to be the most frightening book I've ever written, the answer I give comes easily and with no hesitation: Pet Semetary'.

(New introduction to Pet Semetary - September 20, 2000)

And I can see where he's coming from all right.

For me the least scary were Tom Gordon and Eyes of the Dragon.

    Long days and pleasant nights

Pet Sematary and IT are the two I find the scariest.

I also think it's Pet Semetary, it left me really quite unsettled. I don't really want to explain why, because then I'd spoil the plot for you though!

Also I found Cell pretty scary.

Least scary... Girl who loved Tom Gordon probably. Or From a Buick 8. Both kept me enthralled though.

Salem's Lot was the first book I read by SK many years ago. Wouldn't read it after dark.
Immediately fell in love with his writing. Didn't read Pet Semetary, one of the very few I haven't read. Saw the movie though, that was enough. Least scary for me Hearts in Atlantis.

I saw one poster above quote an interview from King himself naming "Pet Semetary." I'm not surprised he feels thus because it is without a doubt the one I found most frightening. I have said it before, and it deserves mention again... I felt somehow unclean after reading it, as if some of that same sour, cursed soil clung to me. It introduced horrible ideas and the situations in which good people would indulge in them.

Probably 'Salem's Lot. There are some truly frightening moments in that book.

I'm about 70 pages into IT and if it keeps going the way it's shaping up, it's going to be quite a frightfest itself.

Least scary would probably be Dolores Claiborne, but it wasn't exactly intended to be a scary book.

I have to agree with you John, so far it has to be Pet Semetary without a doubt.

I don't know...I really found The Stand to be scary but for different reasons. I think it was scary for me because I really could see our government screwing up like that! Out of all his books it was the one that I could see actually happening! Scary! It was scary but you have to look at it as not really talking about a clown or a big scary monster but the actual evil heart of a community. Anyway, that's just my opinion!
