I've read The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, but, just like Storm of the Century, there is no book titled Rose Red to accompany this. I know the screenplay of Storm of the Century was given a limited release and always hoped they'd do the same with this, but it never happened. (Uhm, Mr. King, we know you're busy but - could ya? Please?) I just watched the DVD of this again the other day - and you can bet I'll watch it again in about a month or so. (Probably less...)

wow... this film did not get enough credit. Maybe the acting is so so.. maybe some of the characters are annoying, but you can't tell me you weren't a little bit spooked. ESPECIALLY being a woman. (women never turn up when they are swallowed by the house) the ghosts are terrifying & Annie's powers are intriguing. come on now folks! you're not always gonna get a GRADE A horror film, but at LEAST give this mini series a B for effort!

I love the movie Rose Red and have ever since I was a young child. My mother and I have even made it a tradition to watch the movie when it comes on Sci-Fi every Halloween. It was a part of what gave me the want to write, which can be largely acreddited to Mr. King. I found it interesting to find out that he was the pizza delivery guy, every time I watch a King movie I try to find him if he does indeed make an appearance. I find the description highly accurate and enjoyed reading it.

Brilliant and cleaver, I hired the movie of the series 10 years ago, I was hooked and watched it in one sitting, I was very tired at work the next day. I have never forgotten this awesome movie, if you love ghostly horror then this is a no.1 must see. *****

This movie was amazing I can't wait to see to during every Halloween. The first time I seen it, Rose Red had me on the edge of my seat and I love how the movie ends.

Posted By: Anonymous - September 8th, 2011 5:31:59 pm EDT

I've looked the film now I think 10 times, but it is still the most awesome horror-movie I've seen so far... The lenght isn't boring or something like this it is just wonderful how you must watch this movie if you've seen the half of it. The first time I saw this movie I wanted to stop at the half but I can't because it's so great and if you stop you can't walk in youre own house if you don't have an annie-bot next to you^^. A Must-Have-Seen!!!

Posted By: Lexi - September 6th, 2011 11:22:22 am EDT

This is a very good explanation but the movie is about the house Rose Red and I think the houses actions should be mentioned also, it makes the description a lot more interesting, other than just explaining the characters.

this movie/miniseries is clearly one of the very best Ive seen so far. Even though its quite long it never loses its suspense. It is amazing. Story great, atmosphere great, actors/actresses great, location more than great. One of the things I liked the most were the reviews of the history of the Rimbauer family. I am so glad I got it on DVD so I can enjoy it over and over again. I guess I will never understand how Stephen King manages to come up with such brilliant ideas.

My family and I have watched this many times and we never tire of it. The characters are rich, the plot is interesting, and it is scary without being too gory. Matt Ross' performance as Emery Waterman is notable because of the way he developed a difficult character in deep and believable ways. This is a good old-fashioned ghost story and I really like it.

I have loved what stephen kings written since early 80's. He just takes me right in to his stories. I have on more than several occasions read a book, then seen the movie. No surprise the characters look just like I pictured. Been totally hooked . Even got my kids at early teens turned on to his reading. I always hear he is difficult to read, I feel as though it is like a play script type ,extreme detail. He lets you see it how he does. That is why he is my top notch arthur. He can scare me to death, make me laugh or cry. Best wishes to Stephen King and may he continue to keep us entertained well. Thank you with all my interests always, Tricia Morris

so, i saw this movie when I was very young, lol, I barely remember it. But I was told this was a book, not a movie......am I thinking of a different author? Because my friend said Stephen King wrote a book called ROSE RED and it's about a haunted mansion or something like that, and I know it's not THE SHINING, because I have that book....so, am I confuseD?

Great movie. Loved Steve's cameo as the pizza guy, it really tickled me to see him portrayed that way. By the way, if you ever do read these, uncle Stevie, good luck with the signing. I wish I could be there, but it was sold out before I could get my hands on the tickets.

I am currently in the process of reading On Writing, assigned as a summer reading book. I really enjoy it so far, I think more than I have enjoyed your other books. I mostly think this because the majority of your books are kind of creepy, and i dont particurly enjoy horror stoies. Although i do enjoy reading about your life and your opinions. Many of the movies ive seen when i was younger that stuck with me, you wrote. I was quite suprised to discover this. I had already known that IT was written by you but other movies such as Red Rose, Dreamcatcher, and The Firestarter I never imagined were written by you( sorry to repeat, I couldnt think of another way to put it). I really shouldnt be suprised now that i think about it. They are completely your type of horror stories. I find your kind of horror stories the best because they are not filled with blood and gore, but real horror that actually makes a person scared in a deeper type of way. I cant even think of another example of a story like yours at the moment, although I feel as if theres one thats obviously there that I just cant grasp. The point of writing this I guess is to tell you or whoever will read this if anyone, the importance of your stories to me. For some reason they just stand out to me out of all the creepy movies ive seen. The Firestarter I mainly always liked because my sisters name is charlie, and I liked to think that I was somehow sophisticed or something for some one my age. So when I was younger I pretended to be(and most the time was) interested in deeper things.(I dont think im so much more advanced now, but I guess every little kid thinks theyre special). Dreamcatcher stuck with me mainly because it was completely discusting to me. The only thing I could remember from that movie was a scene with a man in narrow bathroom in a cabin who was constipated because of an alien in his body. I think that the he ended up pooing out the alien which maybe ate him or something like that. Its been awhile since ive seen that one. The main thing that sticks out to me about that scene was that the room was very small, dark and kind a blue in a way.. Rose Red. Ive spent a very long time wondering about this movie. I saw it when I was eleven, I think. I dont remember too many details from it except that it was about a haunted house. For some reason ive always liked it. I guess because at that time of my life I spent a lot of time at one of my friends housewhose mother took care of me and my sister probly more that my own parents have. That was when everything was good. I dont remember too much from that time, Rose Read is just one of my few random memories. Ever since though ive always wondered about the movie. I forgot what the title was but I knew what it was about and that it existed. I almost convinced myself once that I made it up because I couldnt find it anywhere. Well I dont think I have anything more to write about. I was just excited that I finally rediscovered those movies and figured id write something about them. Sorry if this is boring whoever has to read this, if anyone does. Sincerely Jelena Terrill

This is my favourite of all time. And no, I'm not kidding. I'm not sure why, it just is. I wish Stephen King would publish the short story this movie is based off of.

[There is no short story from which this was based.  It was written just for the teleplay.]

THIS MOVIE IS THE BOMB!!!! This is the movie that started getting me into Stephen King's work. My favorite character is Emmery (not sure if that's how you spell his name), just for the fact that he's crazy and he breaths funny.

I met Stephen King on day in passing I reconized him but since we were in public I didn't want to cause a stir... we never spoke out loud only through our minds he understood perfectly..Annie is very close to my name (Laurianne) and somehow I feel that part of the movie was related to our meeting.....anyways I have some of the abilities that Annie has so Mr. King if you would like to hear more about the things I have seen let me know. (((HUGS)))

I thought this movie had a very good storyline but I found it to be about 2 hours 2 long. A 4 1/2 hour movie is long unless you can keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The problem was is I was only on the edge of my seat for about 2 1/2 hours.

I agree that this is one of the best horror movies out there. It's suspensful and the mythology behind the haunting makes is intreging and makes sense. There's no unnecessary gore and the experience is actually scary not just a gross out fest.

Dream catcher and IT are also in this catogory but I thought the Mist was abit of a let down though it did give me a panick attack 0.o. Cant wait to watch more of His movies and read more of his books

I have always said that Rose Red is my favorite movie ever...i was hoping it would be a book but i read on this site that it won't be so i won't push that...i think my favorite part of all Stephen King's movies is that he's in them.

Posted By: Louise-o-uk - December 25th, 2008 11:49:17 pm EST
I love this film and every other film stephen king has written or been involved in. I dont know about every one else but one of the things i love about all the King movies is the fact that the cast(going by the movies ive seen so far)are people who are not the high profile actors/actresses that star in most of the movies these days and are spread all over the papers ect, but great actors/actresses who are so underrated for their work! But thats just me..let me know if you feel the same...oooo and while im here im wondering if people would like to see a movie made from Rose Madder and Bag of Bones...im undecided as i dont want the images ive imagined through reading of both books ruined by a badly made movie yet i want so bad to see them on tv/dvd! Happy christmas btw xx

Absolutely the best film I have ever seen. It has been my favorite ever since it aired and it always will be. It's a amazing twist on every classic haunted house story. The story is phenomenal; almost a bittersweet romance drenched with beauty and despair. From the beautiful (and sinister) house, to the gloomy skies and dead leaves, Rose Red is captivating in a way that no other film grasps; into your mind. The only part missing? A score of the powerful, heartbreaking music which I have searched for a number of years, but to no avail. Mr. King is a genius.

Given the research assuredly done by Stephen King, this is a very competent portrayal of his vision. Most of his stories are not translated well in the screenplays, but this one wasn't bad at all. I am a huge admirer of Kings' works and this one combined one of my favorite "haunts"- Winchester Mansion and Kings' imagination, a winning combination.

I loved Rose red because I love stories about haunted houses and I love ghost stories and I know that I watched the movie alot and I am a belevier in ghosts and this book and movie is really good and I would like to say that I know that it is based on a true story and this one really tells the story about a women who just plain had enough of what her husband done to her and she was sick of her heart being broken and she truned on the tables on him when she threw him out the window and killed him.
