I kinda like Viggo, maybe, with darker hair. If you can't have Clint (lol), I've always pictured Roland as Jude Law (again, with darker hair). He has the leanness that a real cowboy has, but with a wiry strength. All those muscles-on-muscles guys don't look like real cowboys at all. Roland is not supposed to be movie star handsome ("Too much twisted steel and sex appeal" ;D)--in fact, it emphasizes that in the books--but he has a sort of regal bearing, coming from his heritage. Law could pull that off in spades. And he has the eyes. I'd not thought of Colin Farrell as Eddie, but that works! I see sort of a young Ewan McGregor in my head. Sonequa Martin-Green for Susannah. Chandler Riggs impresses the hell out of me (so many kids that young really can't act at all), so, yeah, him as Jake. I saw Donald Sutherland as Callahan, but maybe he's too old now.

Fassbender or Viggo would be great choices (anybody except Daniel Craig, sorry) Have a feeling it'll go to a lesser known actor though. What about Kerry Washington as Susannah?
I like Craig as Bond (especially in Casino Royale) but even though I like him, it is hard to imagine him as a Gunslinger, so yeah - another guy would be a better choice

Reading The Gunslinger again, and I ws struck by the first description of Roland, something about his 'flaking, pitted face'. Combined with the shocking blue eyes, this time I was reminded of Jurgen Prochnow. With dark hair, he would definitely work.

harrison ford was, by and large, a relative unknown when he was cast as han solo...

lucky george lucas: for if he'd been as famous then as most of the nice actors y'all have mentioned are now...

the cost of that one contract alone would easily eat into the budget for the much needed effects/sets for such a long term project...

and, if started...we do want it to be completed...right ??

see..i'm being sneaky...can any of you even imagine anyone else playing han solo ??

unknowns....

Found it, duh.

Okay, didn't Stephen say he had Clint Eastwood in mind when he wrote this story? Well, Clint has a son, Scott. He looks exactly like Clint, those steely blue eyes. Rough this boy up--tone down some of that pretty-- and hopefully he can act.

I have to say I never pictured Whoopi G. as Detta....
But she would be able to do all four of the personas associated. I know it is a stretch, and the King likes 'unknowns'. Dream cast, Jeremy Wade as Roland, Joe Pesci as Eddie Dean, Whoopie Goldberg as Sus, Detta, and Mia and Jake (unknown). I know, an older cast, but all have the 'core ' characteristics.
