Van Gogh was at the forefront of 3D technology. (I've never been to one of the new-tech 3D movies...the last one I saw involved those flimsofunky carboard glasses and a Great White shark).

I've seen several of his works in person, and he really plopped on the paint. Some are more accurately classified as sculptures instead of paintings.

Cool thread.

Van Gogh, Roses, May 1890. Oil on canvas. (I have this one framed in the living room.)

I saw one of his paintings, so close I could reach out and touch if if I wanted my arm broken by the security guy, and what I thought was, "Wow, that's gloppy." It was so cool to see the original paint and raised brushstrokes, as though he had just pushed back from the canvas for the last time.

I've seen Dali's Hallucinogenic Toreador in person (I'd include the image but I've yet to figure out how to do that with an iPad :choler: ). It's huge, like nine feet tall, and so expertly realized; all of his experience shows in that one painting.
