We got our plane tickets today !!! We are Ohio bound. We are bringing Jeff's daughter with us, she will be staying with her grandparents while we cavort about ...

We are driving down there. I got the Thursday and Friday off but I had to work a Saturday in advance to pay that back. So we plan to depart the evening of the 16th and stay at a hotel in North Dakota the first night.

I think it would be easiest just to head straight South from Winnipeg down the main highway (anyway we will sort out all the details later). We also have a double room booked at the hotel Scott recommended but we cannot check in until 4 p.m. on Friday the 18th so we plan to take in the tour first of the prison! (oh boy - I think this will be fun!! yeehaw)

Still don't know if I feel comfortable enough with how long I've worked at my job to make the trip... a friend of mine said it's a ten hour drive if I wanted to avoid airline travel, but what weather will be at that time keeps that idea off the table... my car doesn't like running in the rain... dubious that I'll be able to go....

Should I drive or fly? I can't decide dammit!! HELP!!!

Scott, the Salt Fork Park nearby looks very nice... elaborate please...
...Salt Fork, is a State Park about 15 minutes from where we live, which puts it about 3 hours from the site of the Kon...the Lodge and golf course are beautiful, as of course is the lake itself...

You are travelling three hours to be at the site of the Kon? Is this to avoid "kitchen visits"? What if SK drops in!

...I'll let him see OUR kitchen...and yeah, we are in SE Ohio, the Kon is in North Central-and about 2 and a half hours from our place, but a pleasant drive...and the fact that we used to live in that area, makes it old hat...

OK I guess I am confused. maybe I didn't read everything in the thread or perhaps I was in full Todash for awhile, but if I was going to rent a hotel in the center of all the activities, what town should I look to? I had thought the prison was a trip away, but for the most part we'd be hanging near the giant's castle, in full bean stalk mode... No?

Mansfield, Ohio would be the city.
I haven't gone through all the posts- but this is what Scott has said :

I am planning on trying to get Tracy and I into the Country Inn and Suites...we've stayed there before...rooms are nice, breakfast in the AM and it's right in the heart of all the shopping...

...my plan is, is for Tracy and I to get our room and try to work a deal with the hotel to use a small meeting room, and make that our base of operations-so that we have somebody there to greet everyone as they come in-or at least know where to find us...

Hope that helps, Hoss

Try the Travelodge in Mansfield Ohio - we made our reservations there back in March - my confirmation slip is at work and I have today off (they owed me a day) so I can't look at it but it was only about 53 bucks a night (including taxes). We booked for four days so we might have got a reduced rate???
Here is a link:
Travelodge Mansfield | Mansfield, OH  44903 Motel

We got a room with one Queen bed so probably there would be a cheaper version but I am not sure. It is not like we ordered the Honeymoon Suite or anything! But they do have a free continental breakfast and I believe that there are fridges, microwaves, coffee makers ensuite etc.

If you get a room we can come in and put a chocolate mint on your pillow as part of the "turn down" service!

As long as there is a bathtub that I can put my bath bombs in, I'm a happy camper!

Gosh - I hope we changed our minds on the Country Inn and Suites cuz if so then I must change our reservation - although it looked like a more luxurious hotel it was also about 100 bucks a night.

I may be wrong but we might have gone with Travelodge instead???

Scott GNTLGNT - can you let me know please? It would not be too late to change accommodations at his point, just let me know!
