I've read great reviews of Stephanie Myers work so I tried the first one. I have read more compelling literature on bathroom walls than that book. I don't Mr. King will ever get a fair shake because of his subject material but in my opinion is the most influential writer (American or otherwise) since 1970.

Too paraphrase Harry Callaghan( in a round-about way), "the people making decisions have arses the same shape as the seats they sit in"; politicians, critics ( both movie and literary), the mover's and shaker's of popular culture all have agendas. I don't know how many books King has sold; but the proof is there, he is a good writer because people wouldn't be reading his books if they thought he wasn't. Mark.

Umm... I agree that SK is a good (great) writer. But if we are to rate authors based on how many people read them, then Stephanie Myers* (for instance) is one hell of a writer too!

*I haven't read any of her books. Nor does it seem likely that I ever will.

I agree with anything Dirty Harry Callahan says but unfortunately have to disagree that great book sales translate to a good writer. I will again refer to my lone experience with those stupid glittery vampire tales that Stephanie Myers writes. They have sold untold copies and spawned a movie franchise. If you ever read one of those books you will know exactly what I mean. If you haven't, please take my word for it and don't waste any of your life fumbling through.

I guess I shouldn't be slamming other writers here and apologize to those who have a different opinion of Stephanie Myers. Clearly there are tons of folks that would disagree with my assessment.

I think her fan base is mostly teenage girls, but you are right - there are lots of girls out there with plenty of expendable income - so now Stephanie Myers is rich (I have never read her stuff, but I will take Stephen King's word when he says it is drivel).

Just because an author is RICH doesn't make them GOOD, & visa versa! We find ourselves in an age where any IDIOT with a computer and a wad of cash can have a book PUBLISHED if it has a plot to it at all, furthermore they will almost always find a group of idiots that ENJOY it, the QUESTION is if that group will be large enough with a big enough income to make that idiot "AUTHOR" rich! :)

It is not so much the sparkliness but the language and the hollowness of the story that i didn't like. To me at least.;;D:sleeping:
