I just viewed the video. That was really enticing.

Have the film rights been sold to this one yet? Or, to Ms. Mod, ( Moderator ) could you see this as an AMC series, maybe even an HBO True-Detective-ish kind of thing?

If this book doesn't sell millions in hardcover out of the gate, then there will have been unforeseen problems in the marketing/promotion of the title.

Is the video trailer by any chance playing in theaters? It should be.

This seems like pure page-turning King from the days of Misery and Thinner (come to think of it, someone did say something about this seeming like a Bachman book, I believe; I kid you not, I just wrote those two titles at random and thought about the mentioned connection after the fact).

I assume the letter in the video was an excerpt from the book, correct?

To the best of my knowledge, the rights have not been optioned at this time. The letter is an excerpt from the book.

Jordan, question for you: did Mr. King need to get the permission of the company behind the Mercedes brand to use that trademark in the title? If not, has the company made any sort of public statement about the use of the name?

You'll have to wait for Moderator to return for an answer to that.

No, because it isn't Mercedes Benz which is the official trademark but the publisher's Legal Dept. did have a go-through to make sure there wasn't anything in either the book or the video that might cause an issue and we did have to make changes based on their concerns, i.e. we couldn't use an image of an actual Mercedes vehicle for the video. I don't know how they're going to handle that in the movie adaptation.

There was a compelling reason why King chose a car like that one, where the Smart Car would fall short.

Oh, yeah!! I'm guessing they'll figure something out that will appease Mercedes and assure them it won't give their cars a bad reputation or hopefully not inspire any copycats. :icon_eek:
