I liked it last week. Waiting patiently for the children to get out of my bedroom so I can watch it tonight. I'm intrigued. But I'm also reading Doctor Sleep and don't want to stop. But tonight is Nurse Jackie and Penny Dreadful. And maybe Californication. I'll have to resume reading later.

I agree about the appropriate nudity. But I get the feeling there will be boobs soon enough.

He definitely was.

This board is altogether too fun. :D I need to get back to Tennessee (in my mind, anyway)--my people have been waiting for me this morning. Impatiently.
I must have missed this Tennessee reference when we had this conversation so long ago. What've you got going on in my part of the world? Please say you're in town for Memphis in May. That would be evah so fun.

I had to start watching and then stop watching the first episode like 3 times... It just could not hold my attention. I kept thinking to myself, "another show about Vampires? Really?" I have to admit I deleted the ep off of the Tivo before finishing it...

It's not HBO, it's Showtime. So I guess you guys who like the show will have much to look forward to. Showtime has a knack for running their successful shows for a season or two too long (Dexter, Californication, ect.)

I don't mean to sound harsh on the show or Showtime. I did forget to include Weeds on shows that went on for too many seasons. Everybody likes what they like. In my opinion you could take all of Showtimes original shows, put them together and they still wouldn't hold a candle to the Sopranos. I did watch Dexter, I did watch Weeds. I liked these shows, but at the same time certain aspects of them annoyed me.

We got Showtime free for a weekend. Grandma watched a "Penny Dreadful." She liked it. But not enough to start ordering the Showtime channels.

She's also a fan of "Ripper Street," which she catches whenever she can. I must say, I've seen a couple episodes, and they were quite good. But that's probably a different, and shorter, thread.

I wish. I keep planning a trip to the Nashville area--a research trip/catch up with friends--but THINGS keep happening to bung it up. I have a manuscript set in a small town within 80 miles from Nash, so I'd like to actually see the area with my own, adult eyes. :)

WOW would be nice to all meet up. I live around 20 miles or so from Nashville.

Well, the first season finished up and I must say, they finally grabbed me. It took a number of episodes though before I was a captive audience. The episode where Vanessa and Mina are shown as children growing up together is where they finally hooked me, and now I am very anxious for the second season.

Anyone else care to share their thoughts?

I'm in. It wasn't scary like I thought it would be - it was very literary - scary like the classic horror novels - which I suppose is what they intended. I've never read Picture of Dorian Gray and now I think I will - I read that it was a serial in a monthly magazine eons ago. I like the costumes. Totally makes me want to wear a corset. And then there's they eye candy of these two to keep me coming back. I'm so glad they aren't a couple - yet, anyway. Excellent cliff hanger.

Season 2 is about to start! I have an episode from Monday night recorded on the DVR but I didn't think it was supposed to start until May 3? It does say Season 2 Episode 1. Haven't watched yet though. As DJ said above, it took me awhile to get into the first season. I almost quit watching at one point but I'm glad I stuck with it because it did get better. I hope more villains get introduced. I want more Dorian too. Very intriguing character and I love his backstory.

Dana Jean , did you get to see it? If not, I think they're airing it this Sunday night as the "official"season premiere. I'm not giving away anything by saying that the newly introduced villain is going to make an excellent foe.
