I think this thread existed at the old Board, but I could not find it here...

Many of us listen to audiobooks, I suppose. This could be a place to share what we are listening to, maybe, to recommend others some audiobooks.

I will start. I just finished listening to BBC radioplay Dracula, based on Bram Stoker's novel. A great play, I enjoyed this very much, and I was really scared when listening to at night.

I have the Dark Tower series on audio, and numerous other SK books as well. Dean Koontz aplenty, Tom Clancy, Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell. I am presently listening to "Clear and Present Danger" by Tom Clancy. Just finished "Executive Orders" which was excellent.

I was lucky enough to come across and unabridged version of Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising audiobook several years ago. I had been looking for one for a long time but could only find the abridged version. Seems like many of Clancy's audiobooks are abridged that I come across.

iTunes or Audible.com are the sites that I use. I never buy abridged versions. I download for my iPod mainly cause I like to have someone read me to sleep. I used to buy audiobooks until my darling daughter bought my iPod, and that's all I use now. I purchased Clear and Present Danger for $5.99 Canadian, would you believe?

Thanks for this Lina - my work commute just got longer and it didn't occur to me to listen to plays. I'm hoping my town's public library can hook me up with some scary stage listening.

audible.com is the best site ever for audiobooks. it's by amazon. you pay $14 a month & get one book free per month. Additional books are WAY cheaper than itunes, etc. The usually sell 3 credits for $33 or $11 per book. I have over 50 books in my library. It's how I "read" 90% of my books.
Right now I am making my way through The Dark Tower for the first time. I'm 4 hours into book 3 and loving it.

My favorite readers are:

Ray Porter - (Anything he reads he makes better.)
Stephen King himself (on writing is amazing)
John Slatery (Duma)
Dick Hill (Lee Child books)
Dennis Boutsikaris (Firstarter, Don Winslow books)
Holter Grahm (UR)
and
Craig Wasson (11-22-63)

Those are both excellent audiobooks Sharon. I have an unabridged version of Clancy's Red Storm Rising which I very much treasure. Most of the copies of RSR I see nowadays are abridged.

I believe I've expressed my fondness for this on the old board, but if you can find it-it really is worth a listen-the BBC Pet Sematary Radio drama.

I have only listened to one audio book. It was a Patrica Cornwell, one of the Kay Scarpetta series. I found myself stopping was I was doing to listen to it. This was quite a few years ago now and I have never felt the need to do it again. One of my cousins only borrows audio books from her local library. Different strokes for different folks.

I have UR and Mile 81 on Cd and listened to the first Cd of UR. IF you like Tom Clancy Try Rainbow 6 Pretty good. John Clark and Chavez set up a European special forces and deal with terror in Europe.

I am on an Agatha Christie kick lately, especially the dramatizations. Thank heaven for Audible.com and my iPod.

I took the CD set of Desperation, read by Kathy Bates, back to the library. I have decided I get more enjoyment out of reading a book myself rather than listening to someone else read to me.

It's amazing how some things come along when you need them. I'm not a woman that will reach out for support or praise. I don't think I know how to do that. Yesterday was a hard one for me and to calm myself I browsed books online and came across an offer for a free audio book on meditaton. I needed this refresher. I don't much care for audio books but this one has my attention . . .
