As posted by HWA president Rocky Wood on Facebook:

Last night Stephen King won the Novel Award for 'Doctor Sleep' at the Horror Writers Association's annual Bram Stoker Awards (R) banquet in Portland, Oregon (beating out Joe Hill's NOS4A2).

Because King could not attend Rocky Wood had the honor of accepting on king's behalf. King's acceptance speech was read out: 'I'm delighted to have won this award and want to thank everyone who voted for my book. Deciding to write a sequel to The Shining was a scary idea in itself, and while I was working on it, I kept telling myself I was crazy, and no one would like it. I'm glad I was wrong. Thanks again for this affirmation.'

Now only one question remains: Who the bleep is Rocky Wood?
I haven't been reading horror stories lately. If you'd been on my calls within the past two weeks you'd quickly guess why.
I don't know if it's coincidence (although I don't tend to believe in such a word in my own life) but ever since that NRA stupid-mercial, gun violence has taken a dramatic increase out here in gangland, and Middle Class and even Upper Class USA. In my district it has, and I don't believe I'm the only medic in the United States who sees this on a weekly basis.
Consequently, I haven't been able to read fictionalized horror. I usually like fictitious horror because I can tell myself it isn't happening for real, but that hasn't been working lately.
