Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows any SK books which contain references or similarities to a poem or preferably short story by Edgar Allan Poe. I know there's the Masque of the Red Death, which pretty much formed a basis for the Shining (ballroom, clock etc.), but are there any other books?

I'm asking this because I have to write a huge thesis this and coming schoolyear on a literally ANY subject I want. Being a King fan, I chose him as my subject but my teacher suggested I compared him to Poe. My initial idea was to research the following: How did King put knowledge and appreciation of Poe (Masque of the Red Death) to work in The Shining? Unfortunately, this was already done by someone, so I was forced to choose two other works to compare.

My time is running out, since I only have this week left to hand in a good plan for my research! Any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I know there is a reference somewhere in Insomnia. Ralph makes some sort of comparison with Poes most famous poem the Raven. Don't have it fresh in mind so can't tell you where. Has something to do with omens i think. Sorry i cant help more but Insomnia was never one of my faves.

Then i think one could spin something from The black cat. It is about a man that starts well but falls into alcoholism and beats his wife and in the end murder her butt is foiled by a black cat that he think he has killed that shows the cops where he has hid the body. Alcoholism is fairly common in Kings books too. Can't think of more right now. Good luck.

Woah, thanks a ton Kurben and jchanic! You've been a great help in my search.

I'll be sure to check out the Old Dude's Ticker, sounds very exciting. Also the alcholism motif is something that I'll be looking into.

If anyone else has any ideas/themes/just generally anything please add them :)
