Who the 'real' guy is/was I really dont want to know. Some things you just cannot unknow. I just know it would be like that irritating little tune you simply cannot get out of your head once it gets in there

I guess it never occurred to me that it was based on a real person. I took it as a completely fictional character. I usually read all the after notes, if there was something indicating that Peter Jeffreys is based on a real person I must have skimmed over that part because i don't remember it lol.

Seeing as it's related to the short story in question, I'll just use this thread to say that I hugely enjoyed "Dedication". Really odd concept but something that quickly unfolded itself as being a little gem of a story.

It probably would, I kid you not! We've received mail from all over the world with nothing more than Stephen King, Famous Writer Somewhere in the U.S. as the address. Yet let one of us mess up with one of the numbers on the zip code and we get it returned. :glare:

Tiny, Stephen stopped reading and res ponding to fan mail even before I started working for him back in 1988 so staff has been answering the mail rather than him personally. If there's a question we don't know the answer to, we do sometimes pass it along to him depending on his workload.
:hitch: I didn't know that. Sent a letter off to him a couple of weeks ago in thanks. Oh well.

Wilmington DE, strange little place.
In the Notes section of that book Mr. King says he will not name the guy
"here and now" ....meaning he would (might) name the guy later in some other
venue .... or something.

Ms Mod could gently remind him that its been 26 years now...or whatever

I get the impression that mr King cant remember who the guy was IRL ....
so , WE MIGHT ALL BE out of luck !!!

Hemingway is still my guess.

another good guess is the dude that wrote "Gulliver's travels" He is said to be a raving racist .
and the guy also that wrote the Wizard of Oz". ranting bigot , they say

this could be a topic by itself !

some say that "good writers" are very often "bad humans"
King has said words to this effect and (I believe ) that this idea is what "Morks" are based on
(thats from DT-6,7)

Well it's been more then a year, but I will never give up hope.
I will send him a second snail mail or a third.
It might be possable that the shared the authors name with Tabby
And she remembers the name.
Or one of his kids.
But I simply can't ask them, it would be rude to my way of thinking

I will wait.

I'll be very upfront with you that with all he's got on his to do list, I doubt he'll get back to reading the story so he can try to jog his memory so sending another letter isn't going to make a difference.
