He's shown some great acting chops on Broadway, most recently in the well-reviewed The Cripple of Inishmaan. I think he'll do fine.
I agree. I haven't seen his Broadway work, though I heard it's pretty darn good, but I did really like him in The Woman in Black and Young Doctor's Notebook. He sold both, very diverse, parts.

I think anyone who judges him solely on the Harry Potter movies is selling him short. First, he was so young in the earlier movies and only learning his "craft;" second, while the books are quite good and the movies fun, the material was not very challenging for an actor.

I agree. I saw him in The Woman in Black as well. He's quite a good actor.

He's still very young and he IS honing his craft. I remember seeing an interview with him and he stated that in the first four Potter films he and the rest of the cast were pretty much just 'reacting' to each other and that he really wanted to stretch himself and grow as an actor. I think he is accomplishing this. It takes ALOT of guts to play the lead in the play (Equus? something like that anyway) he did a few years ago where he had to be naked on stage.

Fingers crossed, but I'm not hopeful on the basis of his cinematic career so far, where he has only ever given the one performance (from David Copperfield onwards). Maybe using a US accent will help rather than the contemporary estuary English accent which was so out of place in Woman In Black.

It was interesting watching the main youngsters in the Potter films. In the first one, Emma Watson was staggeringly bad - heaven only knows what she was doing with her mouth, but it seemed to have a life of its own: her lips were almost prehensile. By the 3rd one, she was so good you couldn't tear your eyes away from her when she was on screen. It wasn't until film 5 that poor old Rupert Grint actually got to do anything more than gormless double takes and listening to Harry explain the plot and, when he did, he turned out to be quite good. Tom Felton was pretty good pre-Potter (see Anna And The King) and is turning out to be a very good young adult actor. Which leaves Radcliffe. His lack of inches is unfortunate, but I don't hold that against him. It's simply that, on screen, he gave the same performance in HP8 that he did in HP1, and even his Woman In Black performance, which should have been Everyman Scared Out Of His Pants, turned out to be Harry with whiskers looking worried.

It got a bit of the "Colbert bump" on his Monday show. The piece was more about Daniel Radcliffe but they mentioned he was at Comic-Con promoting his new movie, Horns. Unfortunately, Colbert didn't mention that Horns was written by Joe.

I guess I'm the only one going in without an opinion of Daniel Radcliffe one way or the other. I've never seen a Harry Potter movie or anything else he's been in, I only know who he is from hearing people talk about him.

The director Alexander Aja is hit and miss with me. "High Tension" was great, his remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" was okay. The rest of his stuff has been pretty crappy. I still think he's a good director, it's just his choices of stories that generally sucks. Hopefully with this he'll pull off something great.
