Has Stephen King ever picked up a hitch-hiker on his driving travels and did they end up home.

Yeak, like Lily said, I imagine the man who he picked up would have emerged at some point or another with a book to sell.........or at least a Geraldo interview or something.
Why do you assume it was a man? What about if it was some bird with cut off denim jeans with big juggs. Blonde, like a Swedish back-packer who came up to Maine to see the 'Man'. 'Can I stay at your'e house tonight Mr King? I lost my passport. I'm 17 and have read all your'e books.....'

If the evidence from his short stories are any clue...Chattery Teeth...Mute...Road Virus Heads North...or was it Gramma? or The Woman in the Room? And didn't Christine pick up a hitchhiker? Who was driving, Arnie? His two friends in the car? Memory...have that disease that makes you forget, Anderson's. (Lisey's Story, if it matters) But I liked that one in Christine...you got the Heimlich there...the hitchhiker who...to me, is a kind of Hitchcock, if you catch my meaning. What was his name? Barry Gottfried. Heh! Check it out, chapter 34 of that story, "Leigh and Christine"...chapter starts with lyrics from The Clash:

My baby drove up in a brand-new Cadillac...

Seems like there must be other stories with hitchhiker scenes though I don't recall specific instances at the moment. The Stand? Yeah, I think there's a scene or two in The Stand.

I wonder who gave Stephen a ride when he thumbed?

Some of Stephen's stories (and one very scary experience) eventually put a stop to my hitch-hiking days, I used to do it a lot as a teen.
(Carried a wickedly long fishing/hunting knife under my jeans strapped to my calf, which in hind-sight was a friggen stupid thing to do. :O_O: What the hell was I thinking?! Probably wasn't...)
