Dark Forces: New Stories of Suspense and Supernatural Horror (1980), first edition, decent condition, $10 at a used book store. Features the first appearance of "The Mist".
Ooooo, I love the look and feel of this book! The thick, black cloth with the stamping of the skull, crossbones and wings done on the front. Beautiful book! That's a great find! There are some amazing stories inside.....

Okay, so here's what I've picked up in the last week or so from Ebay or thriftbooks.com:
An ARC of Dan Simmons Summer Of Night- so excited to find this!
Denver by John Dunning- I'm hoping that it won't be a bookclub edition.
Hyenas by Joe Lansdale- it's a Hap & Leonard story so I had to have it!

Big score today! Found a real nice 1st Plume Printing copy of The Gunslinger and a 2nd hardback printing of The Bachman Books omnibus edition ($2.99 each). And, at Goodwill, I found a real nice AUTOGRAPHED hardback copy of Dust by Patricia Cornwell for $1.99! Woohoo!

I left my 20+ year old copy of The Handmaid's Tale out on the porch last night and it rained, so I went looking for another. I found one, plus a leather bound Bronte sisters compilation and a new copy of Neruda's 100 Love Sonnets. Not a bad haul for $6--lol

Today I received in the mail from thriftbooks.com an unread hardback 1st printing of The Troop by 'Nick Cutter' (great non-de-plume!). What makes it really cool is that it is a review copy as it came with a piece of paper inserted in the front that has publishing info, release date, author's bio, a short synopsis of the story and advance reviews by newspapers, etc. and a review by our favorite author- Stephen King- which they placed right at the top of the page, in bold type!

KingRiceFan, I've never heard of thriftbooks.com- do you order from them on a regular basis? Is it a reliable site? I'm asking because in a few weeks, I'm planning on ordering a number of books. I've only dealt with amazon a few times. how does thriftbooks compare?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jonesy! I have done a fair share of buying from them. They have pretty much anything you could want- books, dvd's, etc. Most of their merchandise is used, so please make sure you read the descriptions and check to see if the icons for 'missing dust jacket' or 'ex-library copy' is noted. I would say I have bought maybe 2 dozen items from them and have only been disappointed twice (seller described item as a hardback and what I got was a trade paperback and another time the item was described as a limited signed/numbered and what I got was a bookclub edition). Both times the seller refunded my money with no trouble. I didn't even have to send back the books (I donated them). Shipping is included in all purchases, too. You can get a nice hardback book for a mere $3.99! If you're not too picky about your books, I would give them a try. Also, if you order multiple titles from the same seller you can get discounts. You can also make a 'wish list' and be notified by email when an item you're watching is available. Good luck!
