I've noticed that many "newbies" are joing the SKMB using what seems to be their real first and last name as their screen name, while those of us who have been on the boards for a number of years mostly have fun/interesting/wacky screen names. Has FB, Twitter and other social media changed people's views on the need to be anonymous in cyberland? Interesting.

I can remember a time on this MB when no one used their real name. Each reply referred only to the users screen name, even if we knew their real name. Another example of the world moving on.
Indeed. And what about the thread where everyone is posting selfies? And a lot of newbies use a photo of themselves as their avatar. Was a time when no one on the Internet would show their real face.

I think there are a few reasons here: first, people feel comfortable here. Second, the expectation of internet anonymity has been pretty much blasted, largely due to FB. I know about the bowel movements of people I barely know, FFS. Finally, I've noticed that quite a few newbies are here largely to shill their own stuff. We have a place for that, so whatever, but that strikes me as really strange. Do they think Mr. King is personally acting as editor of a public slush pile, and they'll be 'discovered'? For me, I like not having the pressure to sell, sell, sell. The rest of social media is not my favorite thing, but I like this comfy, funny, thought provoking place.

Eh. Whatever.
