Oh, the irony! In my timezone it is 2:30 am, and I'm sitting here, reading "Insomnia". No auras noticed yet, which is nice, I guess. I have to admit that despite lack of enthusiasm about this novel, I really enjoy reading it. Especially with all those references to other King's works.
Keep an eye on that balloon string of yours... :biggrin2:

I remember when I was first reading Insomnia and there was a part when Ralph sees bald doctors entering and leaving the elderly neighbors' (forgot the name, sorry) house. One baldy was carrying the scissors and it was 3AM. The scene scared the bejesus out of me especially when I peeked at the watch and saw the exact same time, I had to look outside the window with my heart pounding like crazy but I HAD TO check if I was safe :p

Apparently there are some Dark Tower references in here, too? I did not catch them as I had not read any of the DT series when I read Insomnia a couple of years ago.

Atropos is one of my favorite King 'baddies'. Just too creepy for words.

I've not read it but when reading oppinions on it, it seems to split people - they either love it or think the book itself is a cure for insomnia by boring you to sleep.

I've never managed to read it because every time I've tried, I fail asleep. One of the rare few SK books I haven't finished

I just finished re-reading Insomnia today. I adore that it's set in Derry, I had completely forgotten that, and I think on my first read through I hadn't read the Dark Tower series so it was very interesting to read it with having read DT. I also think that maybe reading it later in life(!) gave me a bit more of an empathy with Ralph.

I think on my first read through I was younger and I hadn't met the love of my life, my now husband (my Lois!) and to me the novel is so much about love, loving and losing and grief that I can really appreciate it now, how deeply we fall for people and need them and losing them is so hard, even thinking about losing them is so hard.

Unfortunately I do suffer from insomnia now and again, now is one of those times. On a good night I get about three hours sleep, my husband looked over at me reading Insomnia and was like "and you wonder why you can't sleep!" but my insomnia has been with me for the last 30 years or so, so I can't blame it on this book.

I also love how heroic Ralph was, he was being pushed along a bit but he has just so much love, compassion, and strength it was a real pleasure rediscovering this great story.
