From what I have read, the on screen adaptation of this book has been going back and forth from a film to a mini-series adaptation. A film adaptation would allow for big name actors to lead in the roles like with the Shawshank Redemptiom, but with significantly less screen time for the story. A mini-series would allow more time for the nuisances of the story and it has been done already with King's Under the Dome.

Which would be better? Movie or mini-series?

For this book to be adapted properly, I would opt for a mini series. Not as dramatically different as Under The Dome (which I am enjoying, by the way) but more true to the book as Mr. King did with The Shining. A two hour movie just wouldn't allow enough time to develop the story.

I like to see it filmed as a three part mini-series. I'd also like to see it directed by David Lynch. Before you start to rip me apart for that one, have you seen either The Elephant Man or The Straight Story? David proves that he can film a mainstream movie that shows oodles of compassion, love and humanity. He isn;t just some weirdo guy.

I never go to theatres anymore, so it would have to be in the privacy of my own home (my PBA can & usually will kick in). I isolate myself for the others sake, they pay good money to enjoy themselves and I would be horrified to ruin it for them. So I will wait for whatever they decide on and just enjoy it.

I really think this is a terrible choice of to adapt to a filmic format. Too complex a story built on an internal narrative, I just can't see it translating to either TV or film without major compromises.
I cannot think of one SK novel that has ever been done justice on screen (any suggestions?)
His short stories translate so much better.
Sorry for the rant but I still haven't recovered from the butchery of Under the Dome.

Would have been nice if Johnathan Demme had stayed on board for the film. I don't really have a problem with a condensed 2 hour film version if they get a good director. Sure, alot would have to be cut but I never go into a movie expecting a shot for shot replica of the novel, I just hope for an entertaining film inspired by the novel.

I say mini series. 3 day 2 hour mini series. Why not a Netflix series:) then we call all enjoy it from the first chapter too the last:) then at the end Jake decides too turn around from card man. Goes back to Jodie and waits for Sadie!!! Not caring about the future and only dancing to "In The Mood"...

I would definitely prefer a mini-series but, as others have mentioned, i would like it to stay true to the book. People may hate me for this but i just did not like "under the dome". I'm afraid the adaptation ruined it for me. Also i have to disagree with Scheuerle saying that none of stephens novel have been done justice on screen, what about Shawshank, Green mile and even (with the exception of some of the special effects lol) It.

What about Misery? Cujo? IMHO those were pretty darn good adaptions. Delores Claiborne is another outstanding film that somehow never achieved an audience.
