great concept for a short story..I think SK's short stories are way overlooked,by the public in general and definitely the critics..in fact,I think his short stories are just as well written,if not more so,than his novels..just my opinion..

His short stories are some of his absolute best writing. I totally agree with you. I've said this a bazillion times, but when someone writes a short story, they have to tell that tale quick and the writing has to be wicked tight. Stephen does that like no one else.

Totally agree.

Every time I see Okra in a supermarket, I have "Lady Fingers, lady fingers, taste just like lady fingers" going round my head.

i don't scare easy and this was one of the most unsettling stories i h ave read by steven king. His inagination is so vast, it doesn't matter if it is the stand - 1500 pages or so or a short story collection, he seems to probe inside your head and play with your fears and then scare the bejayus out of you. This story and the cat from hell made me very er uneasy.

I read this 2 and a half decades ago and it scarred me. I've never forgotten it, though I did forget where I'd read it or who wrote it. Read it again tonight and one paragraph in, I recognized it. One of the most horrific stories I've ever read. Yeesh. Nasty.

Can't say that I recall this one booklover - but if you say that Steve did a great job, then I believe you! (I will have to go see if I own this collection).

Hi Nessy

Survivor type is in Skelton Crew. 'the Cat from hell' was published in 1977 and apparently isa extra story in Duma Key and an story in Just after Sunset. Do not have a meal before you read this.

I have Just After Sunset and also Duma Key - I'll go have a peek to see if it is in there (but I do not recall it being in either book).
