He has a right to his opinion, and I don't think he should have been suspended.
Sure he does. And his employers have the right to decline to pay him. He is supposed to make them (and himself, in the process) money. When he starts looking like a liability, they have the right (and responsibility, since they have shareholders and employees) to reevaluate that relationship.

Free speech just means legally, we are free to say what we want. It does not—it should not—protect us from consequences.

If I had been part of the one of the most lucrative advertising gimmicks of the last few years, I'd say nothing at all except what the script put in front of me said to say. If you want to keep the bucks rolling in, appeal to everyone. When your image is being sold on everything from cups to couch covers in Wal-Mart, I wouldn't rock the boat. How hard is it to keep to the company line when you are basically making millions of dollars for doing nothing? Course, in this country, ANY press is good press as far as keeping the money rolling in.

He is a pretty old man and still believes what the Bible tells (in the Old Testament) so it's hard to change someone like that. But yes - you are right - it would have been better if in that article in GQ he had just kept his opinion re gays to himself. Apparently they quoted an article from GQ magazine so there was no script as such.

I have only ever watched a few episodes of Duck Dynasty, but my biggest takeaway was this Phil Robertson guy is one highly opinionated smart cookie with an "I couldn’t give a damn what you think attitude." He knows how to appeal to his audience. In a battle between the Robertsons’ and A&E, A&E will lose. The Robertson’s don’t need A&E or any Hollywood entity, and are a brand and franchise unto themselves. A&E could have publicly disagreed with Phil’s comments, yet respect one’s right to free speech and self expression, but to use McCarthy like tactics against him is plain stupid on their part. Phil had to fight A&E to keep "Jesus" from being cut from family prayer. I guess A&E considers Jesus a liability (see how it will start to play out)? Well, A&E sure seems to have lost that battle. A&E knew what they were getting when they signed this clan. And I understand Phil signed a new contract, and on his terms. I highly doubt the clan will back down and it might even increase their fan base. So how does A&E save face? They will have to change their stance or turn over to some upstart competition, which will welcome the Robertsons’ with open arms, over 11 million viewers. Someone is sure to be fired then, and it won't someone with the last name of Robertson.

If nothing else, the controversy will become more interesting and entertaining. Gotta love reality TV, eh?

I want to be more than just a product of the times I am living in. 50 years ago homosexual behavior was listed as a mental disorder in the medical journals...now it's like they want everyone to wave a rainbow flag. Gee, can I just make up my own mind? I think it's just as unfair to treat people badly who think condoning homosexual behavior is harmful, as it was to treat homosexuals wrongly in the past. There's a whole lot of us on this planet, we're not all gonna be 100% alike.

I have a lot to say about these types of situations. I'm not going to do so just now, as my words and ideas would jump and leap over one another making the entire thing a huge mess. What I will say now is this, I support Phil Robertson 100 percent in this.

"Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers - they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right." -Phil Robertson

Just my two cents I believe that A&E needs Duck Dynasty more than Duck Dynasty needs A&E. I pretty sure another network will gladly scoop up this hot series.

I agree and you know what . . .I also think that maybe the Duck Dynasty Family is just tired . . .they're not stupid and Phil is clever . . .he knew what he was doing.

I still like the show . .. and as I stated earlier I'm not going to get into a debate on this.

Oh God - to compare being gay to bestiality? Holy moley! I had a friend (very conservative) and when they said they were going to make it legal for same sex couples to get married he actually said "Next you will be able to marry a goat!" (with apologies Dana Jean).
I don't think he compared them to one another. I think he was just listing them both as sexual sins. He also had going from person to person (sexually) listed as well.

I'm with you. Part of me wants to debate, really badly...but I think...for now...I'll not. (excluding what I've already posted, of course. :) )
