I agree with people's and churches' interpretations of the bible. They use it as an excuse to do whatever they want to do, finding some passage that supports their cause. If I wanted to find a reason to paint all the trees in my yard purple and blue, I could probably find a passage to support that, too. Doesn't make it right.

Read some books about the Mormon faith written by women who have experienced it. Scary stuff - polygamy and women having a lower status, etc. We even had a sect of polygamists living up here in Canada (Bountiful, B.C.) but their leader finally was incarcerated. Winstone Blackmore was one of the leaders and the other was Warren Jeffs.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with polygamy. But I do have a serious problem if any woman is treated as sub-equal, for any reason. Especially if "religion" excuses (or encourages) it.

It comes from the Bible. Leviticus I think. Probably in the same area that it says masturbation is wrong, and so is early withdrawal. (Uses a different word.). It all fits together. They needed to populate, so don't be wasting the seed. And one man can get several women pregnant, so polygamy made sense for that time.

I don't either. Marry whoever you want, as long as everyone agrees and is happy about it.

Why does anyone care who is gay, straight, or homophobic?

I am to the point where I don't think anyone in this county knows what is really going on.

150 million people collect food stamps, a decant education cost 30,000 dollars a year, Prison is a profitable industry, $100,000 dollars equals $50,000 dollars to Uncle Sam, the Ukraine is about to blow up, AT&t is listening, there is a war on everything including electronic cigarettes, Darwinism is blasphemy, The War on drugs kills everyone but meth heads.

But all of this is okay as long as Phil Robertson is kicked off the air for bashing gays.

We also got into an argument here over polygamy - if people want to marry more than one partner I guess that might be okay? (I don't know - it's hard to comprehend actually) but if these are just young girls (15 or 16 years old) and they are marrying one powerful man who is 2 to 3 times their age, then to me that is basically child rape IMHO).

No, all of that is not okay. And there are probably threads for that stuff too, somewhere. If not, maybe we could start them.
But THIS thread is about Phil Robertson and his tv show. I wish he would get kicked off it. But once again, the almighty dollar wins out over ethics and they're right back to business as usual. But everybody rides the Karma train, no matter how much money they make. I'm sure this guy's Karma will catch up with him one way or another. Maybe like somebody suggested, one of his kin, someone he loves, will come out of the closet and stop talking to him because he's so close-minded. We'll see.

I agree. We don't live in the dark ages anymore when people only lived to be 40 so they had to marry young. In this day and age, dating, having sex with, marrying a child is both morally and legally wrong.
This guy is two for two, bashing gays and advocating statutory rape. It makes you wonder what else he thinks is okay. These are just two symptoms of a very sick mind.

Aside from all the controversy,I really did not like the premiere episode of Duck Dynasty. It seem too scripted.

No kidding arista - I can't even remember what it was about now - something to do with a party? I hope they get better as the season moves on.

Duck dynasty the last two episodes have just blown...not even funny.

I love this family! It's the only reality show I watch! My favorite quote..."Being in the woods soothes the soul."-100% true!
