Some great suggestions here. I've only read Drood and liked it very much. Been wondering ever since which of his books I should read next.

i love your avatar.I've read all of Simmons books except for The Abdominable which is on my TBR pile. He is a great writer. He is also more of an idea guy than a character guy. I always find his characters cold. I really enjoyed Black Hill - in many ways it reminds me of his version of The Dead Zone.
Carrion Comfort is closest in style to a King book and is a great mix of horror and SF.
Much obliged.i love your avatar.
Instead of the old realitor saying' Location! Location! Location!' Simmons uses 'Research! Research! Research!'I finished Fires of Eden a week or two back. Wasn't sure if I was going to like it but the story ended up pulling me in. Dan sure does his homework before starting a story, doesn't he?
Preaching to the choir, sister, preaching to the choir! You should really like Prayers (I haven't read Abominable yet, it's in my TBR pile). Prayers shows the versitality of Simmons writing.I've got this first edition Prayers to Broken Stones on my book shelf that I'm dying to get started on. That, and The Abominable.
Too many damn books and not enough time!
I'm too lazy to look right now. Is this a collection of Dan's sketches only?Just got a really good deal on a signed limited copy of Summer Sketches by Simmons published by Lord John Press! Woohoo!
It does have some cool sketches in it (including one he did of the real Dracula's castle), but it is also a small non-fiction study on his travels around the world and where/how he got ideas for stories or books. It's a pretty cool book, one that I owned before but sold on ebay when I moved across the state and had to downsize the book collection.I'm too lazy to look right now. Is this a collection of Dan's sketches only?
Anyone check out the Hyperion books? I'm not a big sci-fi fan but I've read nothing but praise for them (and it is Dan after all).
And to think that this series started with Simmons telling a story to his class of little kids (when he taught school).......he certainly took it to a whole 'nuther level!Yes, I loved them. Probably my favorite SF series of all time. The first is especially masterful.
It's in my TBR pile, so can't help you with this one. Say sorry!I am interested in thoughts on The Abominable; is it worth a gift card?
