This area truly represents Québec's hinterland, where a seemingly endless forest of boreal spruces sprout from the earth. On many evenings, the northern lights dye the sky a kaleidoscope of pinks and blues, which eventually give way to blazing orange sunsets. Only 30,000 people live here, in the world's largest administrative municipality (350,000 sq km), which is roughly the size of Germany. Almost half of them are Cree living on eight reserves separated by hundreds of kilometers.
