I think he was seeing what he wanted to see, while listening to the sounds he wanted to hear. He gave himself over to the life of that place. Reminded me of the Twilight Zone.

Beach World is one of my absolute favourite short stories from Stephen King. I find it to be both criminally underrated and criminally overlooked. It's dark, it's alien, it's surreal, it's dreamlike, it's haunting in its tone of isolation, and I even find it to be somewhat Lovecraftian in its noticeable but never blatant way of communicating just how small and unimportant we are in the magnus of the wider universe. And as I've said before, King's effortless everyman style of narration makes quite an electric fit for the surreal subject matter.

Is it true because I think I read that they were considering making a movie or something based on 'Beach world' 'Beachworld'. Top story, I like the guy that comes out of the salvage space ship and he's from the waste down like on a thing like the robot in 'Lost in Space'. Atmospheric short story. The guy becoming part of the sand part of the planet.

A movie would never work---people would think it was a sequel to Waterworld!

BTW, this is one of the very few SK stories I just do NOT like at all.

....not in a King story....he's not much of a Kumbaya kinda guy....

Well this one did have a somewhat happy ending for everybody but one. When I said on the beach singing Beach Boys tunes I meant I had thought they'd be trapped there and going mad like the other guy blabbing about the Beach Boys.
