New pic from "The Stand". An informal party at the Boulder Free Zone.

With Larry Underwood, Leo Rockway, Nick Andros, Lucy Swann, Frannie Goldsmith and Kojak. They are eating crackers with Underwood deviled ham.

Bad week for art (drawing, at least). :cold:

My theater play opens this Friday, so lots of rehearsals and last-minute things to work on (I still have to design the programmes).

So no new pics for a while.

I do have some more ideas for "The Stand" (that may take time), and a few pics I want to draw from "Night Shift" (with one already half-inked).

I really want to have some free time again soon. :D

New pic! From the collection "Night Shift", the short story "Graveyard Shift".

This is Hall. I do not know if we are supposed to like him, but I do. He may be somewhat of an a-hole, but he was indeed surrounded by people who would bring that out in anybody.

This is how I started imagining him. Until I realized the story must have taken place in 1968 (or close to that year), and had to start over. My boyfriend likes this one better, though, so I saved it. :D

I like this style better, as well, as I was never a fan of hairstyles from the 60s and 70s.

Question: has anyone thrown an empty can? I am just thinking they should be flattened before they can be used as ammo. These ones would not do much good, I think... :apologetic:
...in the day, cans were made of much heavier metals than the current iterations-therefor would have been plenty heavy to cause a rodent migraine....

Just looked up the mass of tin (old school cans) , 7.3 g/cm3. And aluminum, 2.7 g/cm3 . Not an exact science, but must give us an idea of the difference.

Then the poor rat is going to be really hurt.

If Hall's aim is true, that is.

Plus, I'm sure they weren't as thin.

:cower:

Er... This is... Er... Another level of the Tower, yes! Where cans were small but very heavy and easy to throw and could kill rats.

Yes, that's it! :D

Look at that rat! That is the most sympathetic, unthreatening rat I have ever seen :)

It has no idea a can will soon be heading its way.

But there are still other pics I can draw from this story, so not all the rats will be portrayed as "innocent victims". :mad2:

Does muskrat know people are throwing cans at him?

Make that the second most sympathetic one, then. I would not let Hall throw cans at any rat from these forums.

Still in the rat-related-short-story art phase.

From the collection "Night Shift", the short story "Graveyard Shift", here we have Harry Wisconsky.

I wonder if I would have sooner targeted Wisconsky than Warwick, if I were Hall. All that complaining all the time, plus leaving the hard work for everyone else is a bad combination (just goldbricking, I could tolerate a little more, but complaining when he does nothing, man, that surely ticks me off).

In this pic, if he were to see that rat, I am sure he would wish the toilet was open and his pants down. :smug:

Just got to this thread.

Great work, Cesar. Really impressive. I'm enjoying them all. Heck, I'd like walking through a gallery to look at them, and here you're giving us the gallery.

Hearkening to another post in the thread: I work in a female-dominated profession. I find myself with them in all kinds of social things, in conventions, in their hotel rooms, shepherding to and from restaurants and bars, listening to their girly conversations (boys and girls definitely talk differently about sex), and I'm very often the man in the group. I've always been called their "gentlemanly" friend. Or their "brotherly" friend. Never their "gay" friend. And I don't care, but it's just never happened like that.

Thanks for the kind words. And for liking them. =D

As for the "gay best friend" thing, it is a term, just like "geek". Many people could see I am a geek and never use that word to refer to me (whether because they do not know it, it never occurs to them, or it simply has not come up yet).

As I mentioned before, the term, despite seeming to, does not really need the best friend to be gay. Just check a few of these definitions given by different people:

Urban Dictionary: GBF

GBF-Gay best friend. A Gay best friend is a male best friend to a woman. A Gay best friends doesn't necessarily have to be gay. It can just be a boy/man that you could never be lovers with but you still do everything with. You can have more than one GBF any boy/man you can trust to go shopping with, share feelings, etc.

a gay best friend, a common nickname for a straight guy who talks to a girl extensively about her personal problems and life issues

Gay Best friend - that guy who is always there for his girl mates. Talking to them about boys, clothes, other girly stuff. GBF Leeds often uses the alias Max Fakhre.

A friend of the opposite gender that you will never have a relationship with; you treat them as though they were gay.

As with me and the term "geek", many people I know do not even know the term. That could be the same case here. Besides, I do not know the extent of the content they share with you, so it may or may not apply. But Larry with Frannie definitely gives me that vibe. :biggrin-new:

and here you're giving us the gallery.

A lot of the pics I drew are of obscure characters. Even when I draw from Marvel Comics characters.

But I draw for people who actually know of them, obscure as they are. Sometimes, that universe of people is reduced to only me (or so it would seem), but this is a very cool place where I can post a pic of Hall without having to explain who he is, or what the rat is doing there. Or where I can share a pic of a bald Bill Densbrough or a redhaired version of him and people would get it.

So I say I am not "giving you the gallery", but instead that these pics belong to all of us even from their conception. :D :nerd:
