Just got home from work. I see that his remains have been cremated and that there was a private ceremony for family and friends. If there is a public ceremony at some point I am seriously thinking of attending it. It kind of makes me happy to see that word is getting out about just how generous Prince has been in his life with his time, his words of wisdom to other artists and with his money. Now the world will know just how much of himself he gave and gave and gave. Now we will know of all of the concerts he did and then turned around a gave the proceeds to charities. A few years ago his drummer's daughter passed away and Prince canceled shows that were scheduled so that the drummer's family could be together. He didn't replace the drummer for the next few shows, he canceled them, even knowing that it would disappoint his fans. That's love. We will come to find out much more about how generous Prince was in the months to come. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.
...sort of the same unheralded approach our host here has taken....

Did anyone see what that idiot Justin Bieber said hours after Prince's death? I'd like to slam him against a wall.

Rocker Andrew Watt shared a tribute to Prince on Instagram. He wrote: “today waking up to this news I am truly beside myself...devastated...the last of the greatest living performers...”

In a comment that has since been deleted, but was captured in screengrabs, an account with Bieber’s photo and official username — justinbieber — replied, “Well not the last greatest living performer.”

.....Bieber=douche.....

Me too. I don't think I have ever been hit so hard by a death other than my family, as hard as I am being hit by Prince's death.
I'm seeing Purple Rain on the big screen tonight. I'm going to try to make it thru without crying. Prince would want us to find the joy in his work now. He was my brother- he understood what was happening in the world, held up a mirror for all of us to see and he gave me the strength to make it thru another day, week, month, year. We had the same sense of humor (how could we not? We're both Gemini). He was always, always there to give me strength thru his music. God, I'm going to miss him so, so much.

Prince and Stevie Nicks "Stand Back"
This is a song that although Prince doesn't get a songwritng credit he should. Prince's double synthisizer line IS the song. The story I heard was that Stevie was a big Prince fan and wanted him to contribute to the solo album she was working on. Word was that Prince showed up at the studio in the wee hours of the night, did not say a word to Stevie or anyone, positioned himself alongside 2 syths that were set up, played the incredible synth lines you hear in the song, and walked out. Again without saying a word. Just that simple and just that genius. Whether or not that story is apocryphal ultimately does not matter - what does matter is that those synths that Prince plays on "Stand Back" are incredible. Nobody can do it like that guy. No one.

I am off to play Stand back in the Listening to thread.

He also had written (and possibly recorded, I'm not sure) the music for Purple Rain and gave it to Stevie Nicks but she has been quoted as saying that it was just too much for her to do anything with (it scared her because it was too pretty of a song and she didn't want to screw it up) so she gave it back to Prince. The story about Prince coming into the studio and whipping out that synth riff is true and he never said a word to anyone in the studio the whole time. Took him all of 5 minutes or so. It's a well known legend in the Prince camp.
