Watched Blackfish......extremely eye opening. It is about killer whales kept in captivity by Sea World. Changed my mind about these types of theme parks.
I was sorry for the whales and the trainers.....and appalled at the arrogance of commercial corporations.

Okay, Hawking is breaking my heart.

Although, he attributes his disease for making him going deeper into his brain and because of this, he has made these fantastic discoveries. And although he is trapped in a body, he sends his brain out to the universe.

Addendum: I've read his book A Brief History of Time. Apparently he tried very hard to make it as simple as he possibly could--which was still very difficult for me. I had to read it very slowly, and reread passages to get what he was telling me in my own little unworthy brain.

I started Brief History, got about 1.5 chapters, got stuck. I was taking Chemistry 101, and so, having other things already on my mind, decided it was ok for me never to understand Hawking, if necessary. When I told the chemistry teacher, who'd spoken to the class about the book, that I'd purchased it, he just laughed. I know he felt responsible for my spending the $12 (the number indicates just how long I've been in this game of ours, as well as demonstrating my knack for strange details).

You know, the more I think about Blackfish, the more disturbing it is.....I lost sleep thinking about it last night.
Maybe you don't want to watch it.....it might be too much.....it will make you very angry, and rip your heart strings in many directions.
I made up my mind this morning that I will never visit Sea World

I had the same feeling after seeing Blackfish, @Sundrop. Anyone planning to visit Sea World should see this documentary. Everyone who are planning to go see the 2 orcas they captured for the Olympics, too. This is still going on, and I hope that many many people see this documentary.
What was both heartbreaking and good was the genuine love some of the trainers had for the orcas. At least they were trying to look out for them. I almost cry just thinking about it.

@Sundrop and @Lisey Landon -- I will not watch it. This does not mean I bury my head in the sand when it comes to animal cruelty -- I just can't see it or watch it. Even when it's for documentary purposes. Thanks for the heads up Sunny.
You are aware of the problem so it's totally ok not to watch.
I hardly ever watch stuff like this myself. Especially documentaries that involve cruelty to children or animals. If I can't help that particular child or animal, I don't want to watch. It just makes me feel helpless and depressed. It has nothing to do with burying one's head in the sand, IMO.
Information without video is available, so we don't have to break our own hearts time after time :)

I watched a documentary about Candy Darling on Netflix a couple days ago. Sad, but interesting.

On a side note, I can't watch or stomach ANYTHING about animal cruelty either, DJ! I am completely aware of it, but the thought makes me lose sleep and have anxiety attacks. I love animals more than I like people and my heart just rips apart at the thought of these things.

I watched the Candy Darling doc too a few weeks ago. It was very sad.

Any abuse, on any living thing, makes me anxious and puts me in a funk. I just can't watch. Hidden cameras watching child abuse, elderly abuse, spousal abuse, animal abuse -- I just can't watch it.

I know how sensitive you are for the animals.....I'm glad you'll skip watching this one. ♥

I just watched The Amish Shunned: American Experience.

Very heartbreaking. Don't follow the Amish ways, you may never see family again.

I also watched Whoopi Goldberg's documentary on Moms Mabley, a comedienne.

eye opening.

I tried to watch a doc on Phillip K. Dick on Netflix last night, but didn't make it through. Pretty poor production values, and it seemed to be far more interested in how many drugs he took and how often he took them than in his writing... maybe I was just too tired. I might try it again tonight.

I watched this and the guy was messed up. I thought it was pretty interesting overall.

I watched Nightmare Factory and Secrets: Richard III Revealed.

Both very good. The first talked to Greg Nicotero and others who are behind the movie magic and makeup that goes into these blockbuster movies, and small screen things too, like the walking dead. He was responsible for the mist and the green mile-- Mr. Jingles was so real!

The hunt for Richard the III in the parking lot was really interesting.

I have an inborn, abiding interest in the making of movies and love to watch shows featuring among other things behind the scenes of the making of a movie. I like interviews with directors especially, to hear directly from the artists who understand the art the best.

Okay, this one was weird -- Life 2.0. It's about people who basically live their life on a game called Second Life. There is a person who hired an attorney so her avatar could sue another avatar. I understood the idea that art and writing were sort of being hijacked by another avatar, and definitely a creative lawsuit, but the fact that it was within a game -- this just threw me.

And long distance people would hook up and their avatars had sex. Strange and fascinating.

And I've also watched And the Oscar Goes To... which was a fun look back at Oscar recipients and the event.
