I remember pickin this'n up from the old video/gun shop in Tippecanoe, Indiana (say Thankee), right before I started my love affair with the King. I dunno, just thought the flick looked good. Watched it with me dear momma (who, by then, was a dyed-in-the-wool Kingfan, yet, due to the different title, didn't know what it was at first). By the end, she was, like, that's a Stephen King story! I was, like, no sh*t? Like, Creepshow, and Children of the Corn? She said yeah, and I said Thankee.

After that me and me friends were always taking camping trips down the great Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and cooking 'hamdogs' on sticks. It's still one of my top ten movies, yer bugger. God, just thinking about it takes me back.

Good job dere, Meathead.

You have an accent too. No worries, (no filter!!). I had Stand by Me on when Daniel was like three, and I remember him saying to me "but mom - why is the kid dead?"
I don't know what I told him; he was my first born, so the instinct to preserve his innocence was strong, but my desire to watch and explain outweighed that.
Watching that movie makes me want to hug Kiefer Sutherland, Whil Wheaton, and the guy that wrote it.(literally)

I think Stand By Me is in the top 5 King films. It's a quiet movie, filled with great performances by those kids. I, too, was devastated when River died (and can tell you where I was when I heard the news!). I've always wondered how huge of a star River would have been had he lived. He was well on his way to becoming a super star at such an early age. I'm glad that Reiner decided to keep the movie in the same tone as King's novella- he could have turned it into a comedy easily (remember the remake of The Stepford Wives?), which would have ruined it. The last time we see River's character is heartbreaking and even more poignant now.....

I know. I enjoyed River's performance in Indiana Jones and The last Crusade. He has a brother, Joaquin Phoenix. You may have seen him in an M night Shyamalan production called Signs. He's been in other things too, I'm just not able to recall right now.
