Do you know how many times I've almost asked you about the Cars?In honor of this year's SwiftDog approved Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees:
Peter Wolf was one of the first DJs on Boston's legendary station WBCN (104.1). Along with JJ Jackson. Yes, the JJ Jackson from MTV.
Probably one of my favorite Cars songs. Boston is well represented in this year's nominee class! Personal SwiftDog connection to The Cars. A friend of mine dated Paulia Porizkova's (wife of Ric Ocasek) cousin.
This one was a surprise! Glad to see Bad Brains are getting the respect they deserve. Hugely influential. Oh yeah, there's a connection to The Cars. Rick Ocasek (Cars singer) produced the first Bad Brains album!
Jane's Addiction was one of the most important Alternative bands.
And then there was Pearl Jam! I like the VS. album much better than Ten. But SwiftDog's are weird that way..... I also pretty much hate just about everything PJ did after Vitology
Jethro Tul
This band's induction is long overdue!
It's a well-known fact that the founder of the HoF hates Prog Rock. Genesis was inducted a few years ago and, via public polling, Rush made it in 2013. Both way past their eligibility dates. Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Marillion... lots of great Prog artists being ignored by Wenner. Damn shame.
Do you know how many times I've almost asked you about the Cars?
Three. I don't know why- I guess maybe it's just that they are a Boston band.
Jethro Tull did not make it yet?
There are lots of bands that deserve to be in that aren't. As you said, it took forever for Rush to get in. Same for Black Sabbath. Prog bands are in a tough spot. People either love it or hate it. I'm not a huge prog fan but I do appreciate the musicianship. It's kind of like jazz in that respect. There are some jazz artists I love (Coltrane, Monk) and others that are a total snooze-fest for me.
