I think that over the past decade or so that McCammon has become the best writer among the traditional horror-genre authors. Surpassing the likes of King, Simmons, Koontz and others by a long shot. Other than 11.22.63 most of King's works over the last two decades have been average. Simmons has really digressed to the point of being almost unreadable with books like "Abdominable" and "Flashback." In the meantime, McCammon has peaked with his Corbett series. I read anything by these authors but McCammon is the one that I most look forward to reading at this point. Reading his stuff now is like reading King in the 70s and 80s. He has really found his groove.
