Geek Love made me feel like I was 8 years old again reading my Famous Monsters Of Filmland, Creepy and Eerie magazines! This book is hard to describe to anyone as it's in a category all by itself. It's horror, sure, but it's also a mish-mash of other genres.
Carrion Comfort is definitely one of the best novels I've ever read and it's another one that is a mish-mash of genres. Horror, thriller, suspense, sci-fi all rolled into one. The writing is superb (it actually started out as a short story and was published as such but Simmons was told by Ellen Datlow that he couldn't turn it into a novel and I guess he sure showed her!) and the pacing is great, too. Simmons is in my top three list of favorite authors. I have every book he's written and while there are a few that aren't my favorites he always writes something that interests me. I recommend his first novel Song Of Kali- it made me want to never visit Calcutta! His novel Summer Of Night has become a classic in the genre. It unfortunately keeps getting compared to It as it involves a group of school boys and was published around the same time, but there the similarities end. Simmons pulls a Hitchcock in this book and pulls it off well.
