I watched World War Z with my daughter last night. BH and I saw it in the theater when it came out, and I thought it was okay. Estimation went down on a second watching. There are the bones of a good movie in there, but asking Pitt to carry the whole thing was a mistake--it might have worked better if they'd gone with more of an ensemble, like Contagion. Could have been closer to the book, as well, and that would have been a positive. Mostly I regretted spending 2 hours on it when I could have watched 2 more epis of The Returned.

He's wonderful in DEEP, BLUE SEA, as well, and in the BBC version of Wallander. Good actor, now let's see if he can survive the 'fangirl crash', when thy move on to the next flavour of the month--lol.
Yeah, I loved Deep Blue Sea, too. And Wallander was great, too! By the way, as for the fan crash, it is really awful now, he has some real crazy fans. I hope he will stand it while his popolarity is growing so quickly...

Agreed. At least he can actually act, which isn't always the case with the people crazed fangirls obsess over :)

I watched the newest Carrie movie...
I thought that it was actually\y okay.I was expecting a remake like Psycho or something. I'm not a huge fan of remakes. I wish that writers and directors would come up with their own stuff. Otherwise, we won't have any (modern) classics. Especially horror. I'd give the new Carrie movie a chance if you are on the fence about it.

I just finished watching Gravity I am not a big fan of these space movies but since I had seen a trailer of it couple of
months ago, I wanted to give it a try and Wow I just loved the movie. This wasn't like these normal space movies this
was better. And Sandra Bullock looked so different, I almost did not recognize her.

I thought it was ridiculous! I for one love the home invasion storylines, especially The Strangers, and this one started off good but once I figured out there was going to be a huge comedy level, I struggled to even finish it. I didn't like the approach to the film and plot, I thought the actual PLOT itself and motive, etc was nice and original but what a way to blow an opportunity at another nice film like The Stranger's. I don't want to outright spoil anything but you will see what I mean when things start to pick up in the movie..
Not so much a borefest or anything, so I'd give it a shot if I were you, but don't go into it expecting a hardcore serious no b/s just straight terror type of movie. The Strangers however, I could watch that one daily. Perfect to a T in my eyes.

She did an awesome job . . .I enjoyed it a lot, too.

The Master (2012) Philip Seymour Hoffman Joaquin Phoenix

Another awesome Paul Thomas Anderson movie (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood ...). This takes place at the end of WWII and Joaquin Phoenix plays a damaged soldier returning from war who becomes the right hand man of the Hoffman character who is the head of a kind of religious group (maybe a little like L Ron Hubbard) called The Cause. I guess ultimately The Master is about lies sold as religion. This movie did piss off the Scientologists. This is a slow moving beautifully acted and beautifully shot movie. Joaquin Phoenix is great and was nominated for an Oscar.

Watched Devils Pass earlier tonight. I have to say that some scenes was pretty scary. But I did not figured out the
ending very well. I understood it, but somehow the ending remained mystery. But since it was based on a true story, I guess
that was the point. Anyway a good horror film from our Finnish director Renny Harlin or maybe he's an American/Finnish director
these days.

Just watched Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Of course I am aware of this movie and the premise of it having seen parts of it and hearing things about it and the actors involved over the years, but I had never sat down and watched it beginning to end. Quite a movie especially for the times--1967--and in it, a comment is made that a marriage between a black and white was illegal in 17 states! This is in my lifetime. This is just so unbelievable and bizarre.

Kate Hepburn won the academy award for it and it was Spencer Tracy's last film, and everyone knew it was going to be. And yes, he died 17 days after the filming wrapped. You see the love between the two in the final scene where Spencer makes his speech. Kate's tears are just at the surface the whole movie. They had been a couple for many years, even though he continued to have other affairs, but Spencer would not divorce his wife because he was Catholic and he had a profound guilt of having a deaf son--he felt he was punished for this because of his sins. So, they carried on their affair. By what I remember in rumor, the wife knew about Kate eventually, but Kate out of respect for the wife didn't speak of their affair while he was alive. He lived with Hepburn the last 2 years of his life and died in her kitchen.

Also, Kate with her wobbly head, it was becoming apparent she had Parkinson's and many of her scenes, she puts her hands up under her chin or pulls a scarf up to her chin -- I think to minimize the shaking.

Hey guys, I found some time today (*sighs* ah bliss) and thought I'd drop in to share some thoughts about my latest movie viewing.

I got to see 12 Years a Slave. Oh man, I barely made it through and think my heart is still in pieces on the floor--I thought I had already cried all of the tears that I could cry, not even close. I'm not sure I can even really put into words how I'm feeling after watching and I'm not sure I want to try because it feels like it's almost an injustice to do so in the memory of every single person who has suffered through these atrocities... and for those still suffering.

The performances need mentioning though because I'm not sure I've seen such brilliant work in a long time... truly stellar acting. There is one scene in particular that almost blew my mind, I'm not sure I've ever... ever had an emotional response that would have paralelled this one.

I do recommend this movie, and believe it should be viewed by every single human being... once they reach adulthood of course.

Dallas Buyers Club - Matthew McConaughey

Story of a heterosexual, redneck, homophobic Dallas electrician (McConaughey) that gets AIDS in the early days of the disease and goes through some severe denial before he starts to aggressively seek out alternatives to the drug that was being used (and killing people) at the time and helps treat many others with the disease. The movie deals with the stubbornness and profit motives of the FDA along with the transformation of McConaughey's character. McConaughey is fantastic and gets scarily thin for this role. McConaughey has really been on a hot streak the past couple of years with great performances in this movie, Mud, Killer Joe and True Detective.
