Oh no! Not Mr Weaver! I am definitely not a fan! Have you seen 'Into the Universe' with Steven Hawking?
She actually did a fine job of it. She had a good voice for the narration.

I have not seen "Into the Universe." There's several science series (such as "Through the Wormhole," narrated by Morgan Freeman) that I keep meaning to watch, but I just haven't taken the TV time.

Salinger (2013)

An interesting look inside the world of JD Salinger. Salinger wasn't really as reclusive as I had believed but he was intensely private. This story is about a question with no real answer, Why would a guy who wrote a book that sold 60 million copies never want to publish anything again? A few people that knew him are interviewed but no one really seems to know the answer. Salinger apparently enjoyed writing and continued writing after Catcher In The Rye up until his death, he just never wanted to publish anything. Salinger has some finished works that are supposed to be released in the coming years.

It's a persistent story, for sure, but the proof isn't there. Most of the background material used in making the claim doesn't take into account either the living conditions of brothers (they had no privacy, which would make it incredibly difficult for a woman to have remained undiscovered for long) or the papal politics of the day (A Germanic MAN would be unbelievable in the papacy, let alone a woman. The Italians had a death grip on that role at the time.)

It's a fun idea, but history makes it hard to back up.

No, my son watched this and told me I needed to. What were your thoughts? I'll make sure to watch it.

I watched jc when it was first released in 2006. I just noticed it's available on Netflix now, so I plan a re-watch in the next couple days. It's a toughie for me, I actually knew the woman (Becky Fischer) who started this camp. I haven't seen her in over a decade (or more), so don't really know how much she's changed since then. I was told there were many things taken out of context & remember being conflicted when I first saw it - we used to go to the same church as Fischer, though I don't know if she's still affiliated with it or not. My brother is actually a pastor of the church where I first met her. Like I said - soooooo many conflicted feelings! Since it's been 8 years since I've watched it, maybe I will see things differently now.

I'll let you know my thoughts on it. I'll try to get it watched this weekend.

I watch a little guy on Fridays and while he was napping, I watched this. I in no way want to be insulting or hurt yours or anyone else's feelings on this. So I will try to give an honest opinion that is sensitive to you and your brother and your past friendship with this Becky Fischer.

I pretty much feel the same way the radio announcer that was interspersed throughout felt. God gave us a brain and I honestly believe that you can be a person of very strong faith, but also continue to learn. I know someone who feels that college is bad for kids as it leads them away from church. What? Keep them stupid so they will be easier to lead, a nice flock of sheep to follow whatever the cult says? I didn't like the camp itself for the fact it seemed very militant. And the message was very severe for these kids. THe fact that these children looked scared and were weeping and so upset... it felt like emotional child abuse to me. We are ALL sinners. And I felt like this camp put unrealistic expectations on these babies.... yes, it doesn't hurt to expect our children to be the best they can be, but one little misstep and they would be flogging themselves practically. And one little girl (the activist child who kept approaching people) said that God only visits the churches who are vocal and praising Jesus loudly and with flair (My words, paraphrasing her.) People who quietly worship in their church, well, God isn't going to go to their church. I think this is so wrong to teach kids. It was just ugly. Any exclusion of anyone for any reason is not Christianity in my book.

I do agree with the message that the children are our future, but I want educated children who have compassion and understanding and love for their fellow man whether they believe their way or not. I felt the camp was anti-Christian in it's lack of these things towards "non-believers" or Christians who aren't as fervent as they were.

And, the fact that they were speaking in tongues to pray -- Nope. There are many religions that chant or use mantras so I guess if they would have said lets now all do a mantra, I might have been more on board with it. But the fact she said, "Let's pray in tongues" and then they all started babbling-- nope, can't get on board with that. It just seems creepy to me.

Also, when she condemned Harry Potter, gah, the ignorance!

I knew pretty quick these were not Christians I would want in my life in any way. It's brainwashing. Scare tactics. and it's not God's Love if you believe in God.
