Back in the day though, audiences, at least American ones, were used to accepting a myth concerning romantic relationships; that men (the movie ticket buyers) got to realize their fantasies in American society. Any leading man was therefore portrayed as mature (while not old), while the romantic interest was never a realistic societal peer. So, the suspension of disbelief was, for that time, maintained.
"For that time", my eye. Movies and TV are STILL full of this BS (older men with much younger women), because men still run the studios.

True. I want to see a movie with a 50 year old woman having a relationship with a 25 year old man. Is it gonna happen? Doubtful, because as you said, the studios are all run by men.

Looks like the Ashton Kutcher/Demi Moore thing did not work out for them (unfortunately) - I guess it was not a "meeting of the minds" :grinning:

They got married? (Wow - I do not keep up with things - thought they were just living common-law).

Sure. We can see Indiana Jones and Henry Jones "share" the same lady and laugh about it, and she's clearly much younger than either. The relationship is part of the story, but the age difference is a throwaway reference.

You get an older woman and a younger guy, and the age difference, on its own, becomes a drama point for the flick. Case in point: The Graduate. And it's not like those movies are crowding the top of the classics, like To Have And Have Not.

Don't forget Harold And Maude. That's a classic!

Spiderman #2. Enjoyed it well enough. Electro was overdone, but still liked it. Miss Toby Maguire, but this other guy whose name I forgot does fine. If I'd realized it was a different production company that didn't include a cutesy segment at the end of the credits, we wouldn't have stayed through the credits.

Worth a look, but glad I didn't shell out for it on the big screen.

Today I watched "Blast from the Past" with Brendan Frasier, Sissy Spacek, Christopher Walken and Alicia Silverstone. I saw it years ago at the theatre and I enjoyed watching it today on TV (I had recorded it).

I also saw "The Social Network" based on the guy who started Facebook - that was okay. Again I had recorded this one, but it had commercials and I had to fast forward them. (It had a few good moments in it).
This particular scene did make me laugh, actually :applause::laugh::biggrin2:
