I have to say I don't really rate the movie. It's very much of its time and has aged very badly... a bit like me.
Read a passage, then hide your face in a pillow. Read another passage then hide your face again. Do this until you finish the book or you pass out.

Either read the book and be scared or don't read it. Unfortunately, those are your options.
I watched the movie and just about cried coz it was sooooo bad! Its not even the same story! It doesnt even begin to encapulate the essence or emotion of the book. Never ever again! About being scared- just read it. The scary fear parts are underlying to the uplifting and amazing rest of the story. I promise if you carry on Pennywise wont get you! Hes all talk

My first time reading IT I was 17 and it scared me at times. I got through it though and Ibam better for it. Absolutely LOVE this book!! Great story and journey for The Constant Reader!!! Read IT!!! Pun intended...
Maybe it would help to replace the image of Pennywise in your head with a mummy,werewolf or maybe even the creature from the black lagoon? They are all less terrifying

There is a rumour floating around that for every 666th person who reads the book the clown comes to life with murder in his heart, insanity in his mind, and the reader in his sights! I'd be careful...
I think reading it during the day & skimming the parts that are scariest to you (there were actually some chunks I didn't read because I didn't want it in my head, but I still got the jist of the story just fine!) and actually, I just read it after watching the movie. I was trying to get over my fear of pennywise from when I was a kid. Anyway, somehow watching it right before I read it helped me not be so scared. It's worth a read so I hope you get through it!
Just soldier on through IT... I read it for the first time when I was 19. It scared the hell out of me. I was reaching in to rooms first to turn on the lights for at least a week straight...lol. But the scare is what makes it fun and entertaining...
Can't help--lol. This is the only book that has given me nightmares, multiple times ("A Good Marriage" is the only story to give me nightmares, as well. Mr. King has the writing goods!).
