AND it is WONDERFUL, sliced up three huge chunks for bite-size nibbling and hid it where the family will not think to look.

My Chocolatier verified the rumor stated here in another thread that chocolate could be in short supply as she stated 'unfortunately chocolate and coffee are usually from war-torn or the poorest of countries including those who are battling Ebola in Africa, yes, there could be a problem.' She also stated that she would not put it past the big chocolate companies taking advantage of bad situations as the above to raise their prices.
Mega Corporations taking advantage to squeeze just a bit more out of us. Never happens.

I've heard that as well. They say one of the suspects was Prince Albert.
That is true as far as it goes. He was first named suspect in a book in 1962. It all went back on a theory that he had gotten syphylis, gone mad from it it and now was out out to hunt down the one who given it to him(Mary Kelly) which was suppiosed to be the reason the murder stopped. All is pure BS. If you do a little research you see the Prince has actually alibis for several of the murders and that he had several official appointments with ambassadors and the like so obviously was healthy enough to to his duties. Thirdly To get Syphylis there is a certain incubation time before you can get mad and much to short time had passed for that to happen. But once a suspect, always a suspect and the poor prince will always be one even if he might be one of the most unlikely ones.

Carrie. Not really reading it but buying it.

Check your e-mail if you subscribe to the Cemetery Dance newsletter. They have a 50% off sale today only and they still have some special edition Carrie books left. (Not the signed ones just the hardcovers in slipcase version) I bought one and got $42.50 off. I don't think they ship until next month.

You know, not too long ago I said that I was going to read The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm actually surprised by how unputdownable I am finding the book to be. It definitely has some slower moments and there are lots of characters and places with names that don't exactly roll off the tongue, but I'm going through it faster than I thought I would.

And no, I'm not on drugs. :biggrin2:

I'm not big on the classics but The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite. I agree, a few slow parts, but overall, it's a good read. Have a good Thanksgiving sir.

It is not a classic for nothing. It is a very well told tale in the classic adventure mode that Dumas, at his best, was very good at. The Count of Monte Cristo may very well be his best book. Other classic adventure tales are also standing by themself like Jules Vernes The Mysterious Island or The Children of Captain Grant. I think it is the classic morality tales that we have more difficulty to swallow today. A good adventure tale is always a good adventure tale.

A question to all you readers out there. This Maze Runner series (have forgotten the author) ... Is that any good? People compare it to the hungergames but they compare anything to that nowadays so it doesn't mean anything now. Not talking about the movie i saw they made or are making but the books. Worth a read?

I found the books an enjoyable read. They are good, but not great. Some of the characters I found were quite bland, but I did enjoy the story and it has a satisfying ending.

The author is James Dashner! :)

I'm still reading A Sudden Light by Garth Stein. I haven't had had as much time to read as I'd like lately, so what do I do? I started Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace.

I haven't read them, but DD#2 has and liked them. As she is a big (and discerning) reader, I'd take that as a rec :) Like any YA book, I'd guess that it's a straight ahead story, not much subtlety.

Reading a history of Sherlock Holmes and his development from the early on character in A study in Scarlet in the 1880-ties to the updatings in the tv-series today (Sherlock) and the movies. It is interesting. It is written by a swedish author (Mattias Boström) and it is called From Holmes to Sherlock. I translated the title to english for your sake. You learn a lot of amusing coincidences that has today given us a picture of how Holmes should look like but a lot of it doesn't come from Doyle but from illustrators and actors that doyle had no influence over. A good fact book about a fictional character. But there was once a firm belief that he existed and people wrote letters to Doyle asking him to sen them on to Holmes. Went on for years and years.

Revival by Stephen King

Unsettling book.

Finishes strong.

I found the early parts painful to get through. That was due to how close it echoed my early years. Even more it pulled hard at the wounds me and my family endured during my mom's futile and painful two year battle with cancer.
